No. 9 Cougars come from behind, win sixth straight to move into first place tie in Jayhawk West

Trailing for thirty-seven minutes and facing a twelve point second half deficit, the Barton Community College men’s basketball team battled from behind to earn a hard fought 86-82 victory over Cloud County Community College Wednesday night in Concordia.  The No. 9 ranked Cougars were held at bay most of the night until freshman Algie Key knocked down a three-pointer to give Barton its first lead at 74-73 with 2:46 to play.  After exchanging buckets throughout the next minute, a three-point play by Dwayne Brunson with 1:17 to play gave Barton a 79-77 lead it wouldn’t relinquish.  With the victory coupled with Seward County’s home loss to Hutchinson, Barton moves into a three-way tie for first place with Seward and Colby. Barton improves to 20-2 on the season and 6-2 in conference play while Cloud drops to 4-4 in conference and 14-8 overall.  A battle for first place and between nationally ranked teams will take place this Saturday as Barton travels to Liberal to take on the No. 12 ranked Saints in a 8:00 p.m. Jayhawk West contest.
