Lady Cougars win Region VI Championship, head to National Tournament for second straight year

The Barton Community College volleyball team held off Seward County Community College on Sunday to capture the Region VI Division I Volleyball Championship held at Newman University in Wichita.  After defeating Seward on Saturday in relative easy fashion, Barton was forced to a second championship match following the Lady Saints’ come-from-behind five-set win in the first championship match.   In the winner-take-all second championship match, the Lady Cougars were pushed to four sets but captured their second straight Region VI title and earned their second straight trip to the NJCAA Division I Volleyball National Tournament.

Barton (29-12) will spend the next ten days in preparation for their twenty-first appearance at the national tournament to be held November 18-20 in West Plains, Missouri. Barton won the National Championship in 2003.  Tournament pairings will be released at a later date.
