Central Kansas High School All-Star Basketball Classic

2nd Annual Central Kansas All-Star Classic featured over fifty high school standouts

The second annual Central Kansas High School All-Star Basketball Classic hosted by Barton Community College on Sunday showcased fifty-three of some of Kansas’ best players.   In the girls’ game the American team coached by Sterling High School’s Jill Rowland defeated Great Bend High School Carrie Minton’s National team 85-75. The thrilling game of the day came in game one of the boys contests as Moundridge High School Vance Unrau’s South team needed a a last second put back by Smoky Valley High School’s Holden Hendrichs to defeat Hoisington High School Kyle Haxton’s North team 97-96. Capping off the day of festivities Glen O’Neil of Scott City High School led his West team to a 101-70 victory over St. John High School Clint Kinnamon’s East team. 

In the three point shootout Derby High School’s Tyler Chambers, the boys’ three-point champion, narrowly defeated the girl’s champion Wilson High School’s Karlie Steinle 16-14 in the finals.   Cody Stetler of Hoisington High School won two honors on the day earning the dunk championship and being named the second boys’ game most valuable player representing the West team while Hutchinson High School’s Trevor Turner won the award for the East squad.   LaCrosse High School’s Kip Keeley and Pratt High School’s Chase Hageman were named most valuable players of the first boys’ game while Jamie Waters of St. John High School, Garden Plain High School’s Alli Heimerman, and Payton Hoeme of Pratt High School earned the honors from the girls’ contest.
