Cougars take 2nd at Dodge City; best all conference foes

The Barton Community College women’s golf team teed its season off in good fashion with a 2nd place at the Dodge City Invitational at Mariah Hills Country Club in Dodge City. The Cougars were 2nd to Northwest Oklahoma State – a 4-year school. Northwest Oklahoma shot a 673 to win the event with Barton a distance 2nd at 755 over 36 holes. The Cougars however, held a comfortable margin over all the other Jayhawk Conference schools as Dodge City was 3rd with an 817 – 62 strokes behind Barton. Rachel Strecker tied for 6th to lead the Cougars. Barton’s next action will be conference meet 1 at Atwood Country Club September 19-20.

 

Highlights

Strecker shot an 86 the opening day followed with a 90 the final day for her total of 176 over the Par 72 layout. She was the only Cougar in the Top 10 thanks to a dominating effort from Northwest Oklahoma which placed all 5 golfers in the Top 10.

 

Tara Schremmer was just outside the Top 10 with a 12th place finish following rounds of 94 and 98 for a 192 total. Chelsea Dietz shot a 197 and Natasha Hillman and Shanda Thompson at 200 and 201. All 5 golfers finished in the Top 10. Kaylee Miller and Lindsey Walt played as individual in the tournament shooting a 202 and a 212.

 

Colby finished 4th in the tournament with an 880 and Northwest Kansas Tech was 5th at 966.
