Barton women 2nd at Jayhawk Conference opening meet; Strecker 2nd as well

The Barton Community College women’s golf team took 2nd at the 1st Jayhawk Conference meet of the season. The Cougars finished runner-up by 9 strokes over 27 holes of play at Atwood Country Club Sunday and Monday. Rachel Strecker finished 2nd individually in the event with a total of 130. Dodge City won the meet with a team total of 550 with Barton 9 strokes back at 559. The Cougars will travel to Goodland to take part in the Northwest Kansas Fall Invitational in early October as its next meet.  

Highlights
The Cougars stayed nearly even with Dodge on day two of the event – the 18-hole portion – but fell 8 strokes behind after the opening 9 holes Sunday. Colby was 3rd with a 575 and Coffeyville a distant 4th at 645.

 

Strecker shot a 6-over Par 42 the opening 9 holes followed by an 88 Monday over the 18-hole day. That was good for a 130 – just 3 strokes of the winning total posted by Colby’s Chelsie Gausman. Gausman shot a 41-86 – 127. Barton placed 3 more girls in the Top 10 with Lindsey Wait tied for 3rd with a 45-88 – 133, Chelsea Dietz 7th with a 46-94 – 140 and Natasha Hillman 10th in 47-94 – 141.

 

Also shooting for Barton were Shanda Thompson (148) and Tara Schremmer (155) as a member of the Cougars team along with individual medalists Kaylee Miller (144), Michele Mull (164), and Kathleen Duncan (170). Wait’s score did not count toward Barton’s team total as she was shooting as an individual medalist as well.

 

The Cougars will travel to Goodland the October 4 to play in the Northwest Kansas Fall Invitational at Sugar Hills Country Club. Barton will conclude its fall schedule with the 2nd Jayhawk Conference meet Oct 17-18 at the Coffeyville Country Club.
