For the second consecutive day the Barton Community College women’s golf team posted solid rounds at the NJCAA Women’s Golf National Championship held at Longbow Golf Course in Mesa, Arizona. In Thursday’s final round the Lady Cougars matched the team’s first day low round of 381 to leap over two teams to finish eleventh place overall. Maddie Sherman took home team bragging rights posting a 93 for the second consecutive day to finish the four-day tournament with 376 and finishing tied for seventy-seventh overall. Kara Koepplin posted the Cougars’ final round low score of 92 to finish second on the team and eighty-second overall. Staisha Miller concluded her solid week of sub-100 rounds by closing with a 99 to finish eighty-seventh while Kaylee Crawford’s remained tied for ninety-third with a final round 97.

The Barton Community College women’s golf team made up three shots in the team standings to draw to within four strokes of twelfth place headed into the final day of competition at the NJCAA Women’s Golf National Championship. The Lady Cougars posted a 384 on day three to remain in thirteenth place but drew to within striking distance after Pima Community College posted a 387. In a flip-flop of day two, only one of the four members improved from their previous day’s efforts as Kara Koepplin bounced back from her 102 yesterday to post a 95 today. Maddie Sherman jumped into the lead amongst her teammates scoring a 93 to take a two stroke lead over yesterday’s leader Staisha Miller. Miller, who shot her high round of the week today, joined teammate Kaylee Crawford in scoring a 98 today.

Three of the four members from the Barton Community College women’s golf team improved from the first day of competition and moved the Lady Cougars up a spot at the NJCAA Women’s Golf National Championship. Despite dropping a stroke from the previous day, the Lady Cougars are in thirteenth place after day two’s combined round of 382 with two remaining days of competition. Staisha Miller improved a shot from day one to take over the lead amongst her teammates shooting a 93 for a two-day total of 187. Maddie Sherman shot the low round of the day for Barton shooting a 92, six strokes better than yesterday, to have a two-day total of 190. Kara Koepplin, who led the Cougars after the first day shooting an 89, ran across some trouble on the second day to post a 102 to fall to 191 overall. Kaylee Crawford also improved from her initial round posting a 95 to bring her total to 195.

The Region VI Champion Barton Community College women’s golf team began play today at the NJCAA Women’s Golf National Championship held at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona. The Cougars are in fourteenth place after day one with a nine-three over par 381 with three remaining days of competition. Kara Koepplin leads the four-pack of freshman Cougars tied for fifty-first shooting an 89. Staisha Miller is next with a 94, Maddie Sherman with a 98, and Kaylee Crawford carded a 100. The Cougars, who had the late tee times on Monday, will have the early tee times on Tuesday beginning at 9:00 a.m. Central Time.

The Barton Community College men’s golf team concluded the season Tuesday finishing eighth in the NJCAA District III Championships at Newton’s Sand Creek Golf Course. The Cougars shot a final round of 365 to remain in the same position from the first day of competition. Freshman Jeremy Eloy led the Cougars with a twenty-eight over par to finish in twenty-ninth place overall.
The Barton Community College men’s golf team find themselves fifteen strokes from qualifying for nationals as the Cougars stand in eight place after the second of three rounds of the NJCAA District III Championships being held at Newton’s Sand Creek Golf Course. The Cougars posted rounds of 324 and 326 today with eighteen holes to be played Tuesday beginning at 8:00 a.m. Smith Center freshman Alex Hobelmann fired an eight-over par 152 in his two rounds which ties him for tenth place. Teams placing within the top six and individuals placing in the top ten qualify for the NJCAA Division I Men’s Golf National Championship May 12-17, 2013 in Lubbock, Texas.
Getting off to a slow start on the first day of the Region VI Championship, the Barton Community College women’s golf team rallied to win the championship at Hutchinson’s Carey Park Golf Course by two strokes. Trailing by eleven strokes after nine holes in Sunday’s competition, Barton rallied in the back nine holes to build a four stroke lead heading into Monday’s final round. Battling Dodge City Community College throughout the day, the Cougars held on to win the championship by two strokes and parlayed the regional championship title to their regular season conference championship. Barton also had four individuals finish in the top ten which qualifies the Cougars for individual and team competition in the NJCAA Women’s Golf National Championship held at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona, May 13-16. Individuals qualifying for the Cougars were Kaylee Crawford, Kara Koepplin, Staisha Miller, & Maddie Sherman.
In less than ideal weather conditions Monday at StoneRidge Golf Club in Great Bend, the Barton Community College women’s golf team distanced themselves from the field to win the Barton StoneRidge #6 Invitational by thirty-one strokes. The Lady Cougars led by twenty-one after day one’s eighteen holes of competition then shot a 183 nine-hole score to increase the lead by ten for a final 559 score. Barton also placed six players in the top ten, led by Hutchinson freshman Kara Koepplin’s 130 which captured individualist honors by a stroke over Dodge City Community College’s Annie Sheridan. Dodge City finished with a second place 590 while Colby Community College came in third with a score of 627. The Lady Cougars will begin preparation for a possible repeat to the national championships as they will compete April 28-29 at the Region VI Championships at Hutchinson’s Carey Park Golf Course.
Trailing by two strokes after the first eighteen holes, Kara Koepplin fired a nine-hole score of 44 to better Dodge City’s Annie Sheridan by one for medalist honors. Kaylee Crawford’s 140 placed third while Blakelee Cooper bounced back from a rough first day to shoot a 44 to move her into a fourth place tie at 144. Maddie Sherman, Staisha Miller, and Kaylee Rudolph rounded out the Barton individual honors by finishing in a sixth place tie with a 145.

Within days of wrapping up the outright Jayhawk Conference title, the Barton Community College women’s golf team returned to the links Sunday and Monday at Salina’s Municipal Golf Course seeking their fifth straight win of the season. Trailing Dodge City Community College by nine strokes after the first day’s nine holes of play, the Cougars’ rally in the final eighteen holes fell three strokes shy of catching the Conquistadors. Dodge City’s 527 led the meet with Barton finishing at 530 while Colby Community College finished in third with a combined 604. Barton and its conference opponents will return to the Cougars’ home course at StoneRidge Golf Club for the conference’s final meet of the season to be held April 21-22.
Kaylee Crawford, who sat in tenth place after the first nine holes, shot the second best round on day two shooting an 84 to lead Barton with a third place finish 130. Dodge City’s Annie Sheridan and Lina Baquero shared the individual title in shooting a 125 with teammate Lakin Ubert finishing tied for seventh at 137 with Barton’s Blakelee Cooper. Joining Barton’s Crawford and Cooper for individual honors were Kara Koepplin’s 132 fourth place finish, Maddie Sherman tying for fifth place with a 133, and Staisha Miller’s 139 good for ninth place.

The Barton Community College women’s golf team leads by seven strokes after Thursday’s first day of the Barton StoneRidge #4 Invitational played at StoneRidge Golf Club in Great Bend. Barton shot a team score of 184 through nine holes to lead second place Dodge City Community College’s 191 and third place Colby Community College’s 200. The Lady Cougars, who have won each of the previous three conference meets, can wrap up sole possession of the conference title in holding the lead through day two’s eighteen holes of competition beginning Friday at 10:00 a.m.
Barton Freshman Maddie Sherman leads individual honors by shooting a 41 to lead Dodge City’s Shanell Hensley by three strokes. Other current top ten individuals for Barton are Kara Koepplin with a 46 to tie for fourth place and Katie Seeman’s 48 currently good for eighth place.

The Barton Community College men’s golf team began the second half of their season Wednesday finishing in seventh place in the Jayhawk Conference No. 4 Meet held at Salina’s Municipal Golf Course. In less than ideal golf conditions consisting of temperatures reaching only in the mid-forties, the Cougar team of five freshmen finished with a team score of 614 for a combined fifty-four over par, forty-seven strokes from the top finishing team. Barton will be back on the links April 7-8 for the Conference Meet No. 5 to be held at Emporia’s Municipal Golf Course. The Cougars will have their practice round on Sunday then will play thirty-six holes beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Monday.
Jeremie Eloy finished in tenth place at four-over-par leading the Cougars with rounds of 71 and 73 for a total of 144. Alex Hobelmann finished in twenty-second place closing with a round of 73 after posting a 76 earlier in the day for a total of seven-over-par 149.

If Monday’s practice round was any indication of the season Barton Community College men’s golfer Garrett Bland is going to have, the freshman from Ellsworth is going to have a great season. Using a 9-iron on the par three 147-yard fourth hole at Great Bend’s StoneRidge Golf Club, Bland carded his first career ace. Witnessing the feat were teammates Jack Kanak, Justin Kiser, and Bryer Livermore.
The Cougars, who have finished as high as fourth in the fall season, open their spring season March 24 at the Emporia Municipal Golf Course in the conference’s fourth meet of the season. The Lady Cougars, who won all their tournaments in the fall, will open their spring portion of the season April 1 at StoneRidge Golf Club as Barton plays host to the conference’s fourth women’s tournament of the year.
The No. 9 ranked Barton women’s golf team won their third straight Jayhawk Conference meet of the season in edging out No. 10 Dodge City Community College today by two strokes at Mariah Hills Golf Course in Dodge City. Trailing by one stroke entering day two, the Lady Cougars outscored the Conquistadors on their home course by three to earn the victory. For the second straight meet, Hutchinson’s Kara Koepplin led the Lady Cougars with a third place finish as four players were top ten finishers including fellow freshman Kaylee Crawford’s identical third placing. Barton will not be back in action until the spring season begins April 1st as the Lady Cougars will host the Conference Meet No. 4 in Great Bend.

The women’s golf team battled from behind after day one to capture their second straight Jayhawk Conference meet of the season today at the Coffeyville Golf Course. Despite Barton being assessed a two stroke penalty for a player accidentally playing a wrong ball during day one’s competition, the Lady Cougars erased a two stroke deficit to win by four strokes over rival Dodge City Community College. In addition to the team title, Hutchinson’s Kara Koepplin led five Lady Cougars in the top ten with her third place performance. Barton will have a few weeks of preparation before the conference’s third meet of the season October 14-15 at Dodge City’s Mariah Hills Golf Course.

The women’s golf team increased their day one lead to win the first Jayhawk Conference meet of the season today at Colby’s Meadow Lake Golf Course. Battling windy and cold conditions on day two, Barton increased its seven stroke day one lead to win by 25 strokes. Finishing fifth in her first collegiate competition, Larned High School standout Katie Seeman paced five Barton freshmen golfers in the top ten and just missing by one stroke of getting all six players in the top ten. The Lady Cougars will spend the next few weeks preparing for the conference’s second meet of the season September 30 through October 1 at the Coffeyville Golf Course.
