The Barton Community College men’s basketball team opened its 2010-11 campaign with a win over the Bethany JV at the Barton Gym Monday night. The Cougars rolled to a 105-64 win over the visiting Swedes. Barton will hit the road this weekend, traveling to fellow Region VI school Hesston Saturday. Tip for the contest with the Larks will be at 7 pm.
Highlights
Barton put 6 of its 9 players in double figures in the opener, led by sophomore Colin Beatty with 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the floor. As a team Barton shot 55 percent during the contest, hitting 42-of-77 field goals attempts. The Cougars were not as efficient behind the 3-point line, though, hitting just 8-of-25 attempts.
Joining Betty in double figures were Chris Cantino with 14, Jalen Boyd, Carl Wallace, and Storm Sanders all with 13 and Kevin Barber with 12. All 9 Cougars scored and played at least 18 minutes. Adam Young found double figures of his own but it was in rebounding, collected 12 during the contest.
Wallace, a freshman, nearly collected a double-double leading Barton with 9 assists. Sanders added 5 assists and 3 steals. Bethany put a pair of player in double figures with Vincent Roybal leading the way with 13 and Austin Evans adding 12.
Barton will travel to Hesston this weekend for its 1st road contest of the season then return home for the Barton Classic the following weekend. Barton will play Quakerdale Prep and Frank Phillips during the classic.
