Cougars win big road conference game by taking down second place Colby

Trailing by six in the opening two minutes, the No. 10 ranked Barton Community College men’s basketball team utilized a 14-0 run and never looked back in easily defeating Colby Community College 88-65 Wednesday night in Colby.  The Cougars, 18-2 on the season and 4-2 in conference play, never let the Trojans any closer than five and led by as many as thirty-three with twelve minutes remaining in the game to pick up the road Jayhawk West win.  Colby, who was previously alone in second place in front of Barton, falls to 17-4 on the season and 5-2 in conference play.  Barton will be back at the Barton Gym on Saturday as they welcome Pratt Community College to town for an 8:00pm tip-off.

Scoring
Barton had three players in double figures with nine players scoring at least four points and dominated the boards with a 57-36 advantage.  Leading the Cougars in double-digit scoring was Dwayne Brunson with twenty-three points and eight rebounds.  Algie Key recorded a double-double with fourteen points and eleven assists to go along with a team leading three steals. Darius Hill, along with Brunson, was one of three Cougars narrowing missing a double-double statistical output as he scored fourteen points to go along with his nine rebounds.  Carl Wallace scored nine points but grabbed a team high ten rebounds while also dishing out six assists. 

Colby only placed two players in double digit scoring as Jamie Adams and Vincent Dillard each scored fifteen points.  Adams, who scored thirty points in Colby’s Saturday night win in Hutchinson, was held scoreless in the first half and was a mere 6-of-17 from the field for the game.  Dillard, who scored thirteen against Hutch, connected on only six of his eighteen shots to get his fifteen points. 

In addition to the twenty-one rebound advantage by the Cougars, Barton shot 52% from the field while holding Colby to 34.3%.    Barton also outscored the Trojans on the fast break by twenty points as the Cougars dished out twenty-four assists to thirteen turnovers.
