The Barton Community College men’s basketball team opened the 2011-12 season with a 116-67 win over Bethany College JV at the Barton Gym Tuesday night. The Cougars will take on fellow Region VI school Hesston College on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
Highlights
Barton played all twelve players with each contributing to the triple-digit offensive output. Leading the Cougars in scoring were sophomores Dwayne Brunson and DaVonte Grant with 26 and 21 points respectively. Brunson, who tied his career high output, was 10-of-15 from the field while Grant, who also set a new career high, was a perfect 7-of-7 from the field including five three-pointers. As a team Barton shot 58 percent hitting on 40-of 68 field goal attempts which included 9-of-16 from three-distance. The Cougars held Bethany to 36 percent from the floor and forcing 27 turnovers while only committing 12 in the fast paced contest.
Joining Brunson and Grant in double figures was freshman Algie Key with 13 and sophomore Carl Wallace with 12. Key, along with freshman Kurt Walker, led the Cougars in assists with seven each while committing only 3 turnovers between the two of them. Brunson and Wallace led the rebounding effort with eight apiece with sophomore Darius Hill close behind with seven.
Leading the Swedes in scoring was Corbin Fromm with 11 points as he was the lone Bethany player to reach double figures. Close behind was Josh Knight with 9 while Vincent Roybal, Andy Wiechman, and Devin Smith each finished with 8 points.
