Storming back after an early ten point deficit, the Barton Community College men’s basketball team led by three at halftime then held on for a 68-64 victory over the No. 5 ranked Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens Sunday in the Region VI Quarterfinals. Behind a combined twenty-eight point first half scoring by Turon Parker and Dwayne Brunson and sixteen second half points by Algie Key, the Cougars led the entire last thirty moments of the ball game to earn the semifinal berth. With the win Barton improves to 26-6 and advances to Monday’s semifinal while Coffeyville’s season comes to an end at 28-4. The Cougars will play Cowley College, who improved to 23-9 with their quarterfinal 61-52 victory over No. 20 Hutchinson, at 5:00 p.m. at Hartman Arena in Park City.
Scoring
Freshman Algie Key led three players in double-digit scoring with twenty-two, sixteen of which came in the second half. Turon Parker scored nineteen with fourteen coming in the first half as his 3-of-6 shooting from behind the arc provided a 9-0 run in helping Barton erase Coffeyville’s ten point advantage. Dwayne Brunson recorded his fifteenth double-double on the season by halftime and finished with fourteen points and fourteen rebounds to go along with eight blocks.
Colby Carr led three Coffeyville players in double figures with nineteen points and five steals. Chadrack Lufile added ten points and Jalani Poston put up double-double numbers with ten points and thirteen rebounds to go along with three blocks.
