Cougars explode for forty-nine second half points to defeat Colby and clinch region home playoff game

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team continued its dominance over Colby Community College as the Cougars scored forty-nine second half points enroute to Saturday night’s 84-69 win at the Barton Gym.    Barton, who clinched a home playoff game and is now twenty-five and one versus Colby at the Barton gym, erased a one-point halftime deficit to earn the victory and improve to 9-5 in the Jayhawk West and 23-5 overall.  Colby loses their fifth game in the last six outings to fall to 7-8 in conference and 19-9 overall.  Amongst a third place tie with Cloud County Community College, Barton will play at Pratt Community College on Wednesday before a hopeful showdown with Cloud next Saturday night at the Barton gym. 

Scoring
Algie Key led three Barton players in double-digit scoring with a career high thirty-two points in part behind 12-of-14 shooting from the free throw line, as well as, dishing out six assists, two steals, and one block.  Dwayne Brunson tallied his fourth double-double in the last five games and his twelfth of the season as he scored twenty-three and pulled down fourteen rebounds to go along with four blocks.  Turon Parker rounded out the Cougar’s double digit scoring with thirteen points including 3-of-5 from long distance. 

Jamie Adams led two Colby players in double-digits with sixteen points and nine assists but had seven of Colby’s sixteen turnovers.  Hurley Johnson, who was playing his first game since December, came off the Trojan bench to contribute thirteen.
