The Barton Community College men’s basketball team cruised into Region VI quarterfinal play with a 95-73 win over Neosho County Community College in first round action Wednesday night at the Barton Gym. Barton closed out the first half on a 5-0 run to lead by twelve and the Cougars never allowed Neosho back in the game in second half action. The Cougars lead was in the twenties for much of the second half and as large as thirty-one points with seven minutes to play. With the win Barton improves to 25-6 and advances to the quarterfinal round of the playoffs while Neosho’s season comes to an end at 17-14. The Cougars will now play No. 5 ranked Coffeyville, the top seed out of the Jayhawk East, in quarterfinal action 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at Hartman Arena in Park City.
Scoring
Dwayne Brunson and Julian Rose led three other Barton players in double-digit scoring with twenty-one and twenty points respectively. Brunson was 10-of-12 from the field while Rose was 9-of-13 including 2-of-3 from long distance. Turon Parker scored sixteen as he knocked down 4-of-7 from behind the arc. The recently named KJCCC West freshman of the year Algie Key put up a double-double with twelve points and ten rebounds to go along with five assists and two steals. Kurt Walker rounded out the Cougars’ double-digit scoring with eleven as he was a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point distance.
Gregoryshon Magee led three Neosho players in double-digits with seventeen points on 7-of-9 shooting. Raymond Jeter scored fourteen including 4-of-5 from behind the arc while Chris Patton just missed a double-double with fourteen points and nine rebounds.
