Cruising to Jayhawk West win, Cougars move into second place

It wasn’t the dominating performance the Barton Community College men’s basketball team had three days prior, but the No. 10 ranked Cougars had complete control in its 88-76 victory Saturday night over Pratt Community College at the Barton gym.  After tying the game at two apiece, Barton stretched a twelve point halftime advantage to fifteen points in the second half and cruised to the Jayhawk West win.   The Cougars, 19-2 on the season and in second place in the conference at 5-2, drop Pratt below .500 to 10-11 overall and 1-6 in conference.  Barton will travel to Concordia to take on Cloud County Community College Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m. The Thunderbirds, 14-7 overall and 4-3 in conference, are coming off a tough 64-56 loss at Hutchinson where they led by thirteen and held Hutch to four first half field goals.

Barton placed four players in double figures with all ten players scoring in the game.  Algie Key led the Cougars by scoring fifteen of his twenty-five points in the second half while also grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out five assists.  Dwayne Brunson scored twenty one by going 6-of-10 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line in just twenty-three minutes of play.  Turon Parker scored twelve while also getting four steals and Darius Hill just missed a double-double as he scored eleven points and nine rebounds.  The Cougars also controlled the boards 50-36 as seven players grabbed four or more rebounds.

Pratt had five players in double-digit scoring but only got four points out of its remaining four players.  Leading the Beavers in scoring was Aaron Abram’s twenty-five points on 10-of-21 shooting.  Bryton Hobbs scored fourteen while leading the team with four steals.  Trae Beck, who was held to 4-of-14 shooting, finished with twelve while Chad Coachman and Tayler Rock rounded out the top scorers for Pratt with eleven and ten points respectively.
