Cougars win pair of Jayhawk road tilts; host Garden Wednesday

The Barton Community College men's soccer team won a pair of Jayhawk Conference road games this past weekend to keep its mark in the conference perfect. Barton won 1-0 at Neosho County Saturday night then captured a 3-0 win over Independence Sunday afternoon. The wins move Barton to 5-0 in the region – the lone unbeaten team remaining. Barton is 8-3-1 overall on the year. The Cougars’ Jayhawk title chances will put to the test Wednesday when Garden City comes to Cougar Fields for a 4 pm kickoff in a crucial conference contest.

Highlights
Barton used a 1st half goal to propel itself to the win over Neosho, handing the Panthers their 1st loss in region play. The Cougars took that lead on an Ahmad Bah goal 17 minutes into the contest. Sam McCrillis picked up the assist. The Cougars were not able to score after that but Nathan Garrison stopped all 6 shots Neosho put on goal and the Bah goal stood up for the win. Neosho fell to 2-1-1 in the conference and 5-2-1 overall.

Sunday saw the Cougars again take a 1-0 lead to halftime, this time on a McCrillis goal assisted by Igor Barbosa. But unlike Saturday, Barton added a pair of 2nd half goals for a 3-0 win. McCrillis scored again and Kevin Ellis added a goal. David Major and Lippi Sousa assisted the 2nd half goals. Indy remained winless on the year at 0-8 overall and 0-6 in the region.

Garden City will bring a 4-1 Region VI mark to the contest Wednesday and a 6-1-2 mark overall. The lone loss for the Broncbusters came at the hands of Cloud County 4-2. Since then Garden is 3-0 in the conference, outscoring its foes 18-0 in those 3 contests. Barton is currently the lone unbeaten team in the region with its 5-0 mark. Garden is 1 of 4 teams with just one setback. Both teams started the year ranked in the NJCAA Top 15.
