The Barton Community College men's soccer team earned a No. 10 preseason ranking this year in the NJCAA poll. The Cougars made it to the NJCAA National Championships last season, finishing 7th at the tournament. Barton is joined in the ranking by fellow Jayhawk team Garden City, ranked No. 12. Johnson County received votes but didn't place in the Top 15.
Barton will play the No. 1 ranked team in Tyler Junior College in Tyler over the Labor Day Weekend. The Cougars will also play No. 9 ranked San Jacinto that weekend in Tyler as well. Other teams receiving votes the Cougars will play this season include Iowa Western, who the Cougars will get opening weekend at Great Bend High School in the Barton Classic and Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa, whom the Cougars will play Sept 14 at Tonkawa.
The Cougars start the regular season against Iowa Western August 28 at Great Bend High School at 8 pm. Garden City will take on North Iowa Area in the game preceding Barton’s contest. The Classic will wrap up Sunday at Memorial Stadium as well with Barton taking on North Iowa Area at 3 pm after Garden and Iowa Western start the day at 1 pm.
