Cougars battle No. 1 Tyler to 0-0 tie; fall to No. 9 San Jacinto

The Barton Community College men's soccer team failed to come out of Texas with a win but showed it is capable of playing some pretty good soccer. The Cougars battled No. 1 Tyler to draw on Tyler’s home field then nearly pulled off a big rally the next day in a 3-2 loss to No. 9 San Jacinto at Tyler. The No. 10 ranked Cougars are now 1-3-1 on the season and will start Jayhawk Conference action Thursday at home against Cowley.

 

Highlights

The Cougars fended off 4 shots in the tie to Tyler while putting just one shot of their own on goal during the 110 minutes of play with the top ranked team in the country. Tyler outshot Barton in the tie 12-5. Nathan Garrison ended with the shutout in goal for Barton stopping those 4 shots.
 
In the Sunday contest, Barton fell behind San Jacinto by a 3-0 score just one minute into the 2nd half but come storming back. The Cougars had cut the margin to 3-2 midway into the 2nd half and spent much of the remaining time attacking San Jacinto but couldn’t even the score. Among the opportunities the final 25 minutes were 3 shots that hit the post.
 
The Cougars got goals from Kevin Ellis and Ricardo Yeverino in the loss. Sam McCrillis picked up an assist on the Yeverino goal to make it 3-2 with 25 minutes still to play. Ellis had scored 10 minutes earlier to get Barton started.
 
Earlier in the week Barton hammered Bethany College by a 7-2 score. The Cougars had little trouble picking up their 1st win as McCrillis scored 2 goals while Ayub Baker, Yeverino, Italo Arcelino, Adrian Alvarez, and Dula Fadis each added a goal in the win.
