The Barton Community College men's soccer team won for the 1st time at the NJCAA National Soccer Tournament, getting a goal with 3 minutes left in overtime to defeat Darton College (Ga) by a 3-2 score. Ahmad Bah scored his 2nd goal of the game to give Barton the win in Tyler, Texas and a trip to the semifinals. Barton will take on No. 1 ranked and host Tyler Junior College Friday at 5:30 pm. The Cougars are playing in their 3rd NJCAA National Tournament in school history, going 0-2 the 1st two times. Barton and Tyler played earlier this year to a 0-0 tie in Tyler just prior to Labor Day.
Highlights
The Cougars fell behind early in the contest as Darton scored just 8 minutes into the contest to grab a 1-0 lead. That is how the game stayed until the final minutes of the half when Barton performed some late half heroics again. The Cougars tied the game on a Kevin Ellis header off a free kick from Sean Lynk with 1:05 left in the half.
Barton held the lead in the game for a short period of time as Ahmad Bah scored 10 minutes into the 2nd half on a pass from David Major for a 2-1 advantage. That lead was short-lived as Mynor Perez tied the game for the Cavaliers 10 minutes later.
That is how the game remained through the rest of regulation. With the 1st overtime running down, Bah struck again. Bah got the rebound off an Aaron Appel shot and knocked home the winner. It was the 7th goal of the season for the freshman and the 3rd time he has scored twice in one game. The most recent 2-gaol game was an opening round Region VI win over KCK.
For their efforts, the Cougars (20-3-1) will receive a date with the top seed and top ranked team in the NJCAA in Tyler. Tyler (18-0-1) has been ranked No. 1 all season and its only blemish is the 0-0 tie with the Cougars back in early September.
