For the first time in the school’s soccer history, the Barton Community College men's soccer team claims the No. 1 spot in the recently released NJCAA Division I Men’s Soccer poll. The move to the top spot from the No. 2 ranking comes on the heels of last night’s dramatic 3-2 second half of extra time victory over No. 15 Cloud County Community College.
In addition to the top ranking in the NJCAA poll, Barton is also ranked as the No. 1 team in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll.
Barton started the season as the No. 3 ranked team and moves up the rankings from its previous No. 2 spot after former No.1 Tyler Junior College suffered a 1-0 loss last week. Barton is currently 8-1 on the season with its lone loss coming to Tyler in the second half of extra time 1-0 back on September 3rd. Last season the Cougars finished 3rd in the nation which followed a 7th place finish in 2009.
Barton will travel to Cheyenne, Wyoming later this week in non-conference action. The Cougars will play Northwest College on Saturday at 1:30pm then face host Laramie County Community College at noon on Sunday.
