Cougar Soccer earns 4-1 victory over Coffeyville

The Barton Community College men's soccer team earned a hard fought 4-1 victory today over Coffeyville Community College.  After leading 1-0 at halftime and being tied with thirty-four minutes remaining, the Cougars scored three goals in the next thirty minutes to earn its fifth victory of the season against one loss.  The No. 3 nationally ranked Cougars will have a week off to before hosting Neosho Community College on September 14.

In a defensive first half battle, Ahmad Bah gave Barton the game’s only first half goal off a deflection in the goalie box.  At the thirty-four minute of the second half Coffeyville’s Noki Le beat Barton goalkeeper Nick Alexander on a penalty kick.  It was at this point the Cougars seem to awaken and six minutes later Andre Souza kicked in a loose ball to give Barton the lead it wouldn’t relinquish.  Barton would get a Nestor Morales goal at the 11:29 mark and then capped off the victory with a Daniel Macleod goal from a David Major assist with a little less than three minutes remaining.

Notes:
This past Tuesday Lippi Souza became the second consecutive Cougar soccer player to be named the Jayhawk Conference Player of the Week.  Souza, a sophomore from Shawnee, Kansas, scored a phenomenal thirty-yard kick last week against Hesston College and the game winning goal Sunday against No. 9 San Jacinto College.  For the week Souza scored two goals on five shots on goal.
