Cougar Soccer battles to a 3-1 victory over Pratt; sets up key match on Tuesday against Cowley

The #6 ranked Barton Community College men's soccer team battled to a 3-1 victory today over Pratt Community College at Cougar Field.  The Cougars move to 7-6 on the season and 5-1 in conference play and sets up a key Jayhawk Conference and Region VI game this Tuesday at Cowley College.

The Cougars wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard as Nestor Morales fed a perfectly placed pass thru the Pratt defense to Fabio de Almeida just 56 seconds into the contest.  Lightning would strike twice as the same duo combination gave Barton a two goal advantage just 7 minutes later only this time it was de Almeida passing to Morales.

De Almeida would add to his big day as he would pick up his second goal midway thru the second half off an assist from Rodrigo Barbosa at the 24:50 minute mark. Pratt would score its lone goal with 8:14 left in the game as David Coulter scored on a penalty kick past Barton goalkeeper Nick Alexander.

“Fabio was very dangerous today and was a big part of our victory,” Barton Men’s soccer Head Coach Oliver Twelvetrees said.  “We battled through to get the win. We will continue to work hard to hit peak form at the region tournament.”

Barton travels to Arkansas City, Kansas, on Tuesday to take on Cowley College in a key conference and region matchup.   Due to Barton forfeiting victories earlier in the season, the Cougars now find themselves tied with Cowley, Cloud County, and Coffeyville atop the conference standings but trail each by one game in the region standings.  Game time is 7:00 p.m.  Barton will return home next Saturday against Independence Community College at 4:00 p.m.
