Cougar Softball comes back from four-run deficit to pick up first win

The Barton Community College softball team picked up their first win of the 2012 season by defeating Pratt Community College 11-8 in game one of the doubleheader today in Pratt.  The two teams split the series as Pratt scored four in the bottom of the sixth to win game two 6-2.  The series was a stark difference from their season opening meeting last year when Pratt blasted the Lady Cougars by a two game scoring margin of 37-6.   Barton will head to Poteau, Oklahoma, on Friday to play in the Carl Albert State College Tournament over the week-end.  The 1-2 Cougars will play at home on Wednesday, February 22, against Dodge City Community College in a 2:00 pm. doubleheader at Cougar Fields.

Highlights
Barton scored first in game one as Alex Rodriguez singled home Aleeya Yabarra but Pratt answered with two in the home half of the first.  Pratt would quickly stretch the lead by scoring three in the bottom of the second to make it 5-1. Barton scored one in the third and one in the fourth, but Pratt scored one in the bottom of the fifth to stretch the lead out to 6-3.  Facing the three run deficit, the Lady Cougars rallied to tie in the top of sixth.   Pratt was unable to capitalize in the bottom of the seventh as Barton escaped from a bases loaded jam to force extra innings. Utilizing the international tie breaking system, Barton scored five runs while holding Pratt to only two runs in earning Barton pitcher Rachel Baker and the Lady Cougars’ first win of the young season.

In game two Pratt scored a single run in each of the first two innings to hold a 2-0 lead through five innings.  The Lady Cougars again rallied from a deficit as Kendra Cowley followed a Rodriguez double with a two-run homerun to tie it at two.  However Pratt answered in the home half of the inning by scoring four runs to win 6-2 and split the doubleheader series.
