Barton sprinters, hurdlers impressive at Texas Relays

The Barton Community College track and field men’s team fared extremely well at the prestigious Texas Relays in Austin over the weekend. The Cougars ran the 3rd fastest time of any college in the 4x100m relay at the event and swept the college division of the 100m going 1-2-3-4. Barton also won the College division of the 110m hurdles and took 3rd in the 400m hurdles. For the women, Marcelo Solano broke her own Barton school record she been assaulting this year in the hammer throw. Several members of the Barton team also competed at Emporia State over the weekend at the Emporia State Relays.

Highlights – TEXAS RELAYS
Barton cruised to a win in the College division of the 4x100m relay with a time of 39.19 – well ahead of the 40.0 runner-up time. The Cougars would have taken 3rd in the University division, which consists of 4-year major universities. Barton would have been 3rd to Texas A&M (38.71) and Louisiana State (38.78) and just ahead of Baylor (39.21). The quartet of Everett Walker, Markquis Frazier, Oliver Bradwell and Jeremy Hardy also went 1 thru 4 in the College 100m. Walker won the event with a time of 10.33 with a 3.2 wind. He was followed closely by all 3 teammates as Frazier ran a 10.36, Bradwell 10.37, and Hardy 10.38.

Aleec Harris captured the 110m hurdles in the College division with a time of 13.55, well ahead of the 2nd place time of 14.17. Andre Peart also placed in a hurdle event, taking 3rd in the College division in the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.30. Bradley Hines was 8th in the triple jump with a leap of 51-11.75. In the field events, the College and University division are combined so everyone competes together.

The lone woman to place in the top 8 at the event was Marcelo Solano who threw the hammer 181-7 for an 8th place effort in the University/College division. That mark continues to push her school record even farther.
