The Barton Community College volleyball team won easily at Garden City Wednesday night to end the regular season tied for 3rd in the Jayhawk West with Seward County. Barton rolled to a 25-8 25-11 25-13 win over the Broncbusters to end regular season play at 9-5 in the West and 22-7 overall. Garden City ends its year with a 2-28 mark and will not be playing in post season. Barton will host Colby Tuesday night at the Barton Gym to start the Region VI tournament. Colby finished 8-6 in the West and 26-14 overall.
Highlights
The Cougars had little trouble with the Broncbusters, who have struggled much of the season going 0-14 in the West. The Cougars were led in the contest by Raney Okeson with 12 kills. Gabriela Oliveira added 10 kills on 12 attempts, Kamri Nehls 7 kills on 8 attempts, and Taylor Arnold 6 kills on 8 attempts. Juliana de Barros had 42 assists in the win and 3 service aces. Brittiany Hughes led Barton with 18 digs.
Barton will be the 4 seed in the Region VI tournament with Colby earning the 5 seed. The top seed will be Pratt, which finished 12-2 in the West and is 17-15 overall. Pratt will get a bye in the event and await the winner of the Barton and Colby contest. That match will be played at Newman University in Wichita Friday at 4 pm.
The bottom part of the bracket will seed 2nd seed Dodge City host 7th seed Cloud to start play as well as 3rd seed Seward host 6th seed Hutch. Those games will be Tuesday night as well for the right to move onto the 4-team double elimination bracket.
Region VI action at Newman will last through Sunday with the championship game set for 11 am Sunday and a 2nd game to follow if needed.
