Volleyball dominates in road conference sweep of Dodge City -
Juliana de Barros just misses another triple-double

The Barton Community College Volleyball team started a little slow tonight in Dodge City but controlled the rest of the match to sweep Dodge City Community College 25-19, 25-12, and 25-13.  With the sweep the Lady Cougars continued their dominance in the Jayhawk West winning 27 of 29 sets played thus far in the conference season.  Barton maintains its two game lead in the conference at 9-0 and improves to 16-6 on the season.

The Lady Cougars started slow trailing 6-2 but methodically worked their way thru set one to lead 14-13.  Despite nine service errors in the first set, Barton battled through and would outscore the Conquistadors 11-6 down the stretch to win set one.   In set two Barton gained leads of 5-2 and 16-10 and then slipped into dominant mode holding Dodge City to only two points the rest of the set to win 25-12.   In set three the Lady Cougars left no doubt this was going to be another Barton sweep as they raced to leads of 5-1, 11-4, and 20-8 before finishing the set and match with a 25-13 victory.

NJCAA and KJCCC Player of the Week Juliana Melo de Barros just missed her third triple-double of the season as she finished with over 25 assists, 10 digs and 9 kills.  Paula da Silva led the Barton attack with 13 kills while Gabriela Oliveira finished with 9.   Leading the Lady Cougar defense was Giselle de Moura with 14 digs while Ashley Archer was closely behind with 11.  As a team Barton also finished with 9 team blocks.

Barton will take a break from conference action and travel to Colorado Springs, Colorado, this weekend to play in the Air Force Prep Tournament.  On Friday the Lady Cougars will play at 11:00 a.m. against New Mexico Military Institute followed immediately with Colorado Christian University JV at 1:00 p.m., and Air Force Prep at 5:00 p.m.  On Saturday Barton will face two opponents they defeated earlier in the season.  At 9:00 a.m. Barton will play Yavapai College, whom they defeated in three straight tough sets in the College of Southern Idaho Tournament, and at 1:00 p.m. will again play the same Dodge City team they faced tonight and have defeated twice already on the season.  *All times MST
