The Barton Community College Volleyball team won its Jayhawk Conference opener tonight in Garden City sweeping the Broncbusters in three sets 25-12, 25-9, and 25-20.
Barton raced to a 16-8 lead in set one and cruised to the 25-12 win. Set two was much the same as the Lady Cougars led 16-5 before winning 25-9. With the Barton starters seeing limited action, the Broncbusters led 17-15 before Barton outscored them 10-3 to finish off set three and the match 25-20.
Leading the offensive charge was freshman Paula da Silva with 14 kills while sophomore Gabriela Oliveira had 9 kills. Freshman setter Jasbelle Cruz had 17 assists with sophomore Juliana de Barros contributing 15 assists. Defensively the Lady Cougars were led by Oliveira’s 13 digs followed by sophomore Giselle de Moura with 9 and freshman Ashley Archer with 8.
Barton takes to the road again this Friday to take on the Cloud County Thunderbirds in conference action. Game time is 6:30 p.m. in Concordia.
