Highlights
The teams traded the lead much of the 1st half with all 6 ties and 3 lead changes occurring in the opening 20 minutes of play. Barton closed out the half on a 3-0 run and took a 35-32 lead to the locker room.
Barton exploded out of halftime, scoring the 1st 9 points of the half to build 44-32 just more than 2 minutes into the half. Alisha Fanshier started the half with 3-pointer just 10 seconds in. Raven Adams scored on a putback to make it 40-32 then a Harris steal and bucket followed by another layup and Barton had its 12-point lead. The Cougars never trailed after that.
The lead grew to as high as 14 before Butler began to whittle away at the lead, cutting it to just 2 points at 61-59 with 7 minutes left. The Cougars, however, would not relinquish that lead as Adams again hit a big shot to push the lead back to 4. Barton eventually gathered a 7-point lead with 4 minutes left and an 8-point cushion in the final minute as the Cougars held off Butler for the win.
Harris led Barton with 17 points followed by Christina Caddy and Netanya Jackson with 15 each and Adams with 12. Fanshier handed out a career-high tying 6 assists. Adams led Barton with 8 rebounds. Abby Fawcett led Butler with 21 points in the loss.
Barton will travel to Hutch in an effort to make it 4 straight wins but the task won’t be easy. Hutch brings a 16-2 overall record to the game and an unbeaten mark on its home floor. Tip for the game at the Sports Arena will be at 5:30 pm
