Road streak snapped, Lady Cougars fall 61-57 to Cloud

One streak ended and another continued as the Barton Community College women’s basketball team lost a hard fought 61-57 decision to Cloud County Community College Wednesday night in Concordia.  The Lady Cougars, who had won three straight Jayhawk West road games, saw their road warrior streak snapped and continued a five year drought on the Lady T-birds home court.  With the loss the 13-9 Lady Cougars remain tied for fifth in the conference standings at 3-5 while Cloud improves to 14-7 overall and tied for third at 5-3.   Barton travels to Liberal on Saturday to take on No. 6 ranked Seward County Community College at 6:00 p.m.  The Lady Saints, 18-3 on the season and 7-1 in conference play, suffered their first conference loss Wednesday night 80-53 to No. 2 ranked Hutchinson Community College.

Scoring
Dionne Harris led the Lady Cougars in scoring with twenty-one points in only nineteen minutes of action.  Netanya Jackson, playing eighteen minutes of play, put up fourteen points, eight rebounds, and four blocks.  Blair Bloomfield rounded out Barton’s double-digit scoring with eleven points to go along with eight rebounds. 

Ashley Coulter led Cloud County with sixteen points while Tera Ingalsbe put up fourteen.

The Lady Cougars outrebounded Cloud 50-28, including a 22-12 advantage on the offensive boards, to garner a 21-8 second chance point advantage.   However Cloud countered with 5-for-9 three-point shooting in the first half, six total for the game, to gain a twelve point advantage from long distance.  Cloud also gained an advantage at the free throw line as they connected on 25-of-34 free throws while Barton made 19-of-23.
