If basketball games were played based on history, there wouldn’t have been any purpose in playing Saturday night’s Jayhawk Conference women’s basketball game at the Barton Gym. After all, Barton Community College women’s basketball hadn’t lost to Pratt Community College on their home court since 2005 and owned a 32-1 home record against the Lady Beavers. However history dared to repeat itself as Pratt knocked off Barton 53-46 to send the Lady Cougars to its fourth conference loss at home this season. Shooting a frigid 30% from the field and contributing to Barton’s second worst offensive output of the season, the Lady Cougars drop to 3-4 in conference play and 13-8 overall. Barton will take to the road on Wednesday traveling to Concordia for a 6:00 p.m. matchup with Cloud County Community College. The Lady T-birds came within three seconds of upsetting No. 2 ranked Hutchinson Community College Saturday night in the Sports Arena as Hutch’s Chelsea Small sank a three-pointer with 2.8 seconds remaining for the 69-67 win.
Scoring
Shea Shoemaker led Barton in scoring for the third straight game as she scored fourteen points to go along with four assists. The only other Lady Cougar in double-digits was Erin Copeland with eleven points while also dishing out four assists. Hampered by foul trouble and only playing eighteen minutes, Barton’s season leading scorer Dionne Harris finished with five points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Ann Pauly proved to be the big gun for Pratt as she led all players with eighteen points. Coming off the bench to lead the Lady Beavers in rebounding was Cari Guyton with twelve boards while also contributing six points.
