The Barton Community College women’s soccer team bounced back from a tough weekend in Wyoming with a 10-0 blanking of Jayhawk Conference foe Pratt Thursday in the initial meeting between the two schools. Pratt is in its 1st year of soccer. The Cougars improved to 2-0 with the win in a game played at Barclay College in Haviland. Barton is now 5-3 on the season and will look for a 3-0 start to Jayhawk play Wednesday when Cloud County visits Barton in a 2 pm kick off.
Highlights
Barton scored in the game’s first 8 minutes and never looked back on its way to double figures. The Cougars put 18 of its 25 shots on goal with more than half reaching the net. Pratt was able to get off just one shot against Barton – a save by Larami Klein. Klein was making her 1st start in goal for the Cougars.
Four different Cougars scored a pair of goals during the win with Jacqueline Gonzalez adding two assists to her two goals. Danielle Saucedo and Shala Giardini each finished with two goals and an assist while Lucero Viveros scored two goals. Jordan Gallacher scored a goal and added a pair of assists, Amanda Neuschafer added a goal and Bailey Avery an assist.
Barton snapped a 3-game skid with the win and now will look to start another winning streak Wednesday when Cloud comes to the Barton campus. Cloud is currently at the top of the region with 15 points on 5 wins. The Thunderbirds are 5-2 in the region and 7-2 overall. The only losses have come to ranked Jayhawk teams Hutchinson and Johnson County – both 1-0 losses. Cloud has given up just 4 goals in 9 games. Barton has played the fewest conference games of anyone sitting in 4th right now with 6 points but is only 1 of 3 unbeaten teams in the region along with Hutch and Johnson.
