Barton wins 1st two in Minnesota before suffering 1st loss of season

The Barton Community College women’s soccer team won the 1st two contests of the weekend at the Minnesota KickOff Classic then suffered its 1st loss of the season to end the event. Barton defeated Cincinnati State Tech to start play in Rosemont, Minn by a 2-0 score Friday. The Cougars made it two straight in the classic with a 3-0 win over Waubonsee (Ill). Barton suffered its 1st setback in a 3-1 loss to Navarro (Tex) to end the weekend. The Cougars are 3-1 on the season and will begin Jayhawk Conference play Thursday when they host Cowley.

Highlights

Barton’s Danielle Saucedo scored twice in the win over Cincinnati Tech – both on assists from Shala Giardini. Saucedo scored her 1st goal just 3 minutes into the contest then gave Barton a 2-goal cushion midway through the 2nd half.

Saucedo added two more goals the following day and Giardini added a goal as well as the Cougars rolled to a 3-0 win over Waubonsee. Giardini and Saucedo each scored a goal in the final 15 minutes of the opening half and Saucedo made it back-to-back 2-goal games with another goal at the 60-minute mark. Lucero Viveros assisted on Saucedo’s first goal. Corey LaMoureaux recorded her 3rd straight shutout to start the season in goal.

Barton lost for the 1st time this season on the final day of the classic, losing to Navarro College. Navarro scored 3 1st half goals and Barton didn’t crack the scoreboard until just 20 minutes remained when Viveros put the ball in net for Barton.
