Women’s Soccer opens season with Maple Woods

The Barton Community College women’s soccer team did not crack the preseason poll in the NJCAA but some of its foes did. A pair of Jayhawk Conference teams earned Top 15 honors as Johnson County came in No. 2 in the poll after making the NJCAA title game a year ago. Hutchinson was also ranked, coming in at No. 13.

Last season Barton lost to Hutch and beat Johnson by a 5-2 margin in the regular season. Barton eventually saw its season end with a 1-0 loss in 2 overtimes to Johnson in the Region VI Championship game.

Also ranked in the Top 15 is Laramie County (Wyo), an opponent the Cougars will get early in the season in classic play at Cheyenne, Wyo. The Cougars will start their season August 28 at home against Maple Woods (Mo) at Great Bend High School’s Memorial Stadium at 4 pm. The contest will precede the men’s classic to take place over the opening weekend of the soccer season.
