Cougars bounce back with 11-1 in over Dodge City

The Barton Community College women’s soccer team bounced back from its first Jayhawk Conference loss with an 11-1 conference win over Dodge City Thursday afternoon at Cougar Fields in Great Bend. The win kept Barton in the hunt for a share of the Jayhawk crown but the Cougars will need some help. Barton improved to 7-1 in the Jayhawk and 10-4 overall. Dodge City fell to 1-7-1 and 1-11-1. The Cougars will be in Hesston Tuesday for a 5 pm start.

  Highlights
The Cougars received hat tricks from both Danielle Saucedo and Shala Giardini in the win. Saucedo was deadly on the day, firing just 5 shots, 4 on goal, resulting in 3 goals. She also added 2 assists in the win. Saucedo leads the Cougars with 20 goals on the year. Giardini added 3 goals as well to give her 11 on the year. Lucero Viveros added a two goals. Also scoring goals during the win were Jessica Santacruz, Jordan Gallacher and Joan Daly. Amanda Neuschafer picked up a pair of assists.

 

The Cougars dominated the ball, shooting 49 times during the game with 26 of those on goal. Dodge City got off just 2 shots – both on goal – with Ariel Snyder scoring the lone Conquistador goal.   

Barton is still battling for the Jayhawk Conference title and a top seed the Region VI playoffs but the Cougars must get some help. Barton is also still battling to retain one of the top 4 spots in the region to host a 1st round playoff game.
