Barton suffers 1st loss in Jayhawk play at the hands of No. 4 Johnson

The Barton Community College women’s soccer team came up short in its bid to remain 1 of 2 unbeaten teams in the Jayhawk Conference when the Cougars lost a 1-0 battle to No. 4 Johnson County Saturday afternoon at Cougar Fields in Great Bend. The loss was the 1st in conference play for Barton, now 6-1 in the Jayhawk. Barton is 9-4 overall. Johnson improved to 7-0 in the region and 10-1 overall. Hutchinson (9-0) is also unbeaten in the region. Barton will be back on its home field Saturday when the Cougars host Dodge City at 2 pm.

 

Highlights
The lone goal in the contest came midway through the 2nd half when Jenna Neumann scored on a pass in the box from Thomasenia Bouknight with 25 minutes to play. The Cougars were not able to draw even before the final buzzer suffering its 1st home loss of the year.

 

The Cougars weren’t able to penetrate the Cavaliers defense much of the contest, getting off just 13 shots during the game of which just 3 were on goal. Johnson, meanwhile, put 13 shots on goal out of the 25 attempts the Cavaliers took.

 

The Cougars will look to right the ship Thursday when Dodge City comes to Cougar Fields for a 2 pm start. Dodge is 1-5-1 in the Jayhawk and just 1-10-1 overall. The lone win for the Conquistadors was over Jayhawk foe Independence. Dodge also tied Pratt.
