FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Release by Mike Marzolf
The Barton Community College women’s soccer team had a forgettable weekend in Wyoming this past weekend losing a pair of games without scoring a goal. Barton lost 1-0 to Western Wyoming Saturday then fell 2-0 to Laramie County Sunday in Cheyenne Wyom. Barton did record a 6-0 win over Cowley before heading to Wyoming for the weekend. Barton is now 4-3 on the season and will step back into Jayhawk play Thursday when the Cougars travel to Haviland to take on Pratt at 5 pm.
Highlights
Barton dominated play against Western Wyoming but weren’t able to come away with a win or even a draw. The Cougars got off 33 shots in the game to just 6 for Western Wyoming. Barton put 18 shots on goal but was never able to find the net. Western Wyoming put just 4 on goal and one of those – a penalty kick in the final 3 minutes – was the difference in the game.
The Cougars fell behind early against Laramie and trailed 2-0 by halftime. Barton was only able to put 3 shots on goal against Laramie in suffering back-to-back losses in Cheyenne.
The Cougars opened Jayhawk play with a 6-0 blanking of Cowley Thursday scoring 4 times in the opening half on the way to the win at Cougar Fields. Danielle Saucedo scored 4 times in the win while Lucero Viveros and Amanda Neuschafer each added a goal. Jacqueline Gonzalez had a pair of assists and Danielle Mayo added another assist. LaMoureaux and Larami Klein combined for the Cougars’ 4th shutout of the season.
The Cougars will battle first-year program Pratt Thursday in Haviland at Barclay College. The Beavers are using the facilities in a nearby town for its initial season. The kick is set for 5 pm.
