The Barton Community College women's soccer team went on an offensive attack today at Cougar Field and beat Coffeyville Community College 10-0. The victory was the second on the season for the Lady Cougars and comes after a disappointing 6-0 shutout loss against Maple Woods on Tuesday. Barton improves to 2-3 on the season and will have the week off until they host Neosho Community College on Wednesday, September 14.
Barton wasted little time getting on the scoreboard today as Catalina Gutierrez received a Courtney Galliher pass down the right side and beat the Coffeyville goalkeeper just 26 seconds into the game to give Barton a quick 1-0 lead. Nine minutes later Gutierrez beat the Coffeyville defense again and Barton was well on its way to victory. Gutierrez, a freshman from Muskogee, Oklahoma, would score four goals on the day getting her third off a steal with twenty-eight minutes left in the half and her fourth just four minutes into the second half.
“It was nice to see our attacking players get some confidence today,” said Barton Women’s Soccer Head Coach Shawn Uhlenhake. “We started scoring in the first minute and from there it was obvious our offensive minded players were looking to get to goal often”
In addition to Gutierrez’ three first half goals, freshman Jessica Rosenberg and sophomore Bailey Avery scored two goals each and sophomore Gabriela Moreno scored once as Barton took an 8-0 advantage into halftime. Great Bend High School products Moreno had an assist to go along with her goal while freshman Jennifer Allende scored her first goal as a Lady Cougar with 3:45 left in the contest.
“It’s nice to get a home win after a tough road loss,” said Uhlenhake. “I’m proud of the girls and look forward to getting a good week of practice before our next home match.”
