Lady Cougar soccer concludes regular season with 3-1 victory

The Barton Community College women's soccer team took to the conference road tonight and defeated Garden City Community College 3-1.  With the win the Lady Cougars wrapped up its regular season with a 9-7-1 record and guaranteed its fifth straight winning season.  Barton also secured a fifth place finish in the conference and region improving to 8-4 in conference play and 9-4 in the region.  The Lady Cougars return to the road to play their Region VI first round playoff game on Monday, October 24, against an opponent yet to be determined.

Garden City scored the first goal of the night at nineteen minutes into the game only to have the Lady Cougars answer ten minutes later as Jennifer Allende fed Courtney Calliher to tie the game.  After being tied thru halftime, Monica McCarthy scored the first of her two goals just six minutes into the second period from a Jordan Gallacher assist.  McCarthy would then seal the Barton victory with sixteen minutes remaining as she stuck a Jessica Rosenberg assist into goal to give the Lady Cougars the final 3-1 victory.

“Tonight the girls showed a lot of heart to get this win in our last regular season game,” said Barton Women’s Soccer Head Coach Shawn Uhlenhake. “The girls have done an awesome job of working together and finding ways to finish and win games.  It will give us needed momentum carrying into the playoffs on Monday.”

With the conference regular season wrapping up on Thursday evening, the Lady Cougars will have to wait a day to see who they will play in the first round of the Region VI playoffs on Monday.  Regardless of the opponent Barton will have to travel before earning the chance to advance to Topeka for the Region VI Championship.
