The Barton Community College women's soccer team shut out Pratt Community College 3-0 today at Cougar Field. The victory improves the Lady Cougar’s record to 5-6 on the season and into a tie for fourth place in the Jayhawk Conference. Barton will go on the road Tuesday to face fifth place Cowley College before returning home next Saturday against Independence Community College.
“It was nice to get two wins this week after a tough road trip the week before,” said Barton Women’s Soccer Head Coach Shawn Uhlenhake. “We are becoming more confident as a team and I think our sophomores are doing a great job of leading the way.”
In the first half the Lady Cougars took advantage of a windy Cougar Field by launching thirteen shots including six on goal. Monica McCarthy got Barton on the scoreboard just 5:13 into the period as she took a pass from Jessica Rosenberg to beat Pratt goalkeeper Corrin Cook. After numerous shots the Lady Cougars would strike again at the 27:49 minute as Jordan Gallacher found Rachel Ukena to put Barton up 2-0.
Much like the first half the Lady Cougars wasted little time in scoring as Courtney Galliher scored from a Ukena assist at the 7:22 mark of the second half. Going into a stiff second half headwind, the Barton wouldn’t get as many shots at goal but when they did it was usually on goal. The Lady Cougars took five shots with four being on goal.
The Lady Cougars travel to Arkansas City, Kansas, on Tuesday to take on Cowley College at 5:00 p.m. Barton returns home next Saturday against Independence Community College at 2:00 p.m.
