Uhlenhake takes over Barton women’s soccer program

Shawn Uhlenhake will be taking over the Barton Community College women’s soccer program as the Cougars’ new head coach for the 2011 season. Uhlenhake was recently hired to replace Bryan Sailer, who accepted the Emporia State University’s Head Women’s Soccer coach job earlier this month.

Uhlenhake comes to Barton from the Kansas City area where he has coached competitive soccer for the past nine years. This past year he coached at the Blue Valley Soccer Club with the previous eight years at the Kansas Rush Soccer Club. In those years he has coached many players who went on to capture state championships, as well as, play for the Sporting Juniors which is a professional youth academy. Prior to landing in Kansas City, Uhlenhake was an assistant coach for the women’s soccer team at Western Nebraska Community College for one year.

"Shawn comes very highly recommended as one of the premier club soccer coaches in the Midwest,” Trevor Rolfs, Barton Athletic Director said. “I look forward to him taking our women's soccer program to new heights. His energy and enthusiasm will be great for our athletic department!"

As a player, Uhlenhake has played in and won multiple state and regional championships. At the collegiate level he has participated in four national championship tournaments which included the 1998 NJCAA Championship while at State Fair Community College.

"I am very excited to work with Shawn, he was a national championship winner at the junior college level as a player and has carried that onto his coaching career,” said Barton Men’s Soccer Head Coach Oliver Twelvetrees, “I am sure he is going to take Barton Womens Soccer to the next level"

From the Kansas City, Kan. area, Uhlenhake earned an Associate Degree at State Fair Community College in 1999 before finishing up his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Sports Management from Lindenwood University in 2002.

Uhlenhake will be taking over a women’s soccer program at Barton that has four straight seasons of winning more than 10 games, including a Jayhawk Conference championship in 2008.

“I am extremely grateful and excited for this wonderful opportunity,” said Uhlenhake. “I know these types of opportunities don’t come around often and I plan on working as hard as I can to maintain our regional competitiveness and also work to make this program a national contender.”
