Of the cohort of students listed as Freshmen (below 28 credit hours) at Barton County Community College for the Fall 1997 semester, 1531 returned the following spring.  Of these, 970 returned the next academic year, Fall 1998.

As we develop more coding capabilities using our Banner system, future reports on retention rates will become more specific; for example, include original cohort numbers, thereby allowing retention rates expressed as percentages.  Our benchmark is already established in the national research conducted by Noel-Levitz.  In their Fall 97 Findings report, they post the national retention rate at 53% of public two-year community college students returning for a second year of study.
