Barton drops pair of heartbreakers in sub regional to end season

The Barton Community College baseball team saw its season come to and end with a pair of 1-run losses in Region VI Sub Regional action Saturday in Chanute. The Cougars lost the opening game of the day – a morning affair – with an 8-7 setback to Johnson County then fell in the final game on Saturday 6-5 to Pratt. The losses eliminated Barton from post season play with a record of 37-21. MORE

Cougars split games to end season; travel to Chanute for post season

The Barton Community College baseball team split its final regular season games over the weekend at Lawson-Biggs Field and now turns focus to the Region VI playoffs. Barton won a pair Saturday against Dodge City then dropped two Sunday to end the season with a 37-19 record. Barton finished 20-12 in the Jayhawk West, good for 3rd place. The Cougars also finished 3rd in the West for Region VI seeding purposes and will head to Chanute to Sub Regional action Saturday. Barton will take on Johnson County at 9:30 am with host Neosho playing Pratt at 12:30 pm. MORE

Barton sweeps Southeast; loses at No 14 Cowley

The Barton Community College baseball team remained hot over the weekend, sweeping past Southeast Community College out of Nebraska in four games at Lawson-Biggs Field in Great Bend. The Cougars ran their winning to 7 games with the sweep but saw that end at No 14 Cowley College Wednesday night in Arkansas City. The Cougars fell 8-5 to the Tigers in a rematch of Barton’s win at Lawson-Biggs last week. Barton is now 35-17 on the season. Southeast fell to 8-19 with the losses and Cowley improved to 38-11 with its win over Barton. Barton will be at home this weekend to wrap up the regular season. Dodge City will come to Lawson-Biggs for a 4-game Jayhawk West series Saturday and Sunday at 1 pm. MORE

Barton takes 3 of 4 at Butler; beat No 10 Cowley

The Barton Community College baseball team took 3 of 4 games in Jayhawk West play over the weekend in El Dorado then beat Cowley in a midweek contest Tuesday night at home. Barton split with Butler the opening day of the weekend series then swept the Grizzlies on day two to improve to 18-10 in the West. The Cougars knocked off No 10 ranked Cowley Tuesday night 6-1 to improve 31-16 on the season. Barton will have its bye week in West play this weekend but will host Southeast Community College (Neb) Friday and Saturday in doubleheader action at Lawson-Biggs Field. MORE

Cougars sweep West series with Cloud; still in hunt for home playoff sub regional

The Barton Community College baseball team felt the feeling of a Jayhawk West series sweep for the first time this season with a 4-game sweep of Cloud County over the weekend at Lawson-Biggs Field in Great Bend. Barton scored in double digits in 3 of the 4 contests. Barton won 12-4 and 13-6 on Saturday then doubled up 5-4 and 13-10 Sunday. The sweep improves the Cougars to 15-9 in the West and 26-15 overall. Cloud falls to 4-16 in the West and 17-19 overall. The Cougars will travel to Butler to take on the Grizzlies next weekend as Barton tries to close strong in order to host 1 of the 4 sub regionals in early May. Butler is 9-11 in the conference and 18-19 overall. Prior to that Barton will play a single 9-inning mid-week game at Lawson-Biggs Field against the Kansas Wesleyan JV Tuesday at 6 pm. MORE

Barton splits West series at Colby; pick up midweek win over Bethany JV

The Barton Community College baseball team split its Jayhawk West series at Colby over the weekend, winning 2 of the 4 games. The Cougars split doubleheaders both days, losing the opener and winning the nightcap. Barton then picked up a midweek win over the Bethany JV in easy fashion with a 23-5 win over the Swedes Tuesday at Lawson-Biggs Field. Barton is currently 11-9 in the Jayhawk West and 22-15 overall. Colby is among the West leaders at 11-5 in the conference and is now 18-12 overall. Barton will host Cloud County this weekend in West play at Lawson-Biggs Field. MORE

Cougars no-hit Seward in finale for sweep Saturday; split series with Seward

The Barton Community College baseball team put together an impressive Saturday afternoon at Lawson-Biggs Field through some unimpressive weather. The Jayhawk West series Seward County was capped off by a combined no-hitter for Barton – highlighted by Tayler Davis – to earn a sweep of Seward on Saturday. That came after the Saints swept Barton Friday afternoon as the two teams spilt the West series. The split kept Barton in the hunt for the West title and kept Seward near the top. Barton is 9-7 in the West and 18-13 overall while Seward is 11-5 and 22-14. Barton will have a non conference single home game Wednesday against Brown Mackie starting at 4 pm. MORE

Warren hits milestone wins as Barton takes 3 of 4 from Pratt in West play

The Barton Community College baseball team won 3 of 4 over the extended weekend at Pratt in Jayhawk West baseball, in the process earning Coach Mike Warren a pair of milestone wins. With its win in the opener Sunday, the Cougars handed Warren his 800th win at Barton and with the opening win on Monday gave the veteran skipper his 900th win overall. Barton is now 7-5 in the West and 15-11 overall while Pratt stands at 3-9 and 13-12. The Cougars will step outside the conference with a trip to Salina Wednesday for a single game against Brown Mackie then return home to Lawson-Biggs this weekend to host Seward County in Jayhawk West play. Barton wins 2 of 3 against Otero; Warren closing in on milestones

The Barton Community College baseball team took 2 of 3 in a non conference series with Otero (Colo) College during midweek play at Lawson-Biggs Field. The teams split a doubleheader Tuesday then Barton won the rubber match on Wednesday. Barton is now 12-10 overall this season and will get back into Jayhawk West action this weekend. Otero leaves with a 19-12 record. Barton will head to Pratt this weekend for West action for the first time in two weeks as conference play resumes around the West. The wins moved Barton Coach Mike Warren to 799 career wins at Barton and 898 wins overall. MORE

Cougars take 3 of 4 from Hutch; bounce back into West race

The Barton Community College baseball team swept a pair of games Sunday to cap off the Jayhawk West weekend series winning 3 of 4 against Hutchinson at Lawson-Biggs Field in Great Bend. Barton never allowed more than 4 runs in any contest and never more than 8 hits to the Blue Dragons. Meanwhile Barton pounded out double digits hits in 3 of the 4 contests. The wins move Barton 4-4 in the West standings while dropping Hutch to 4-4 as well. Barton is 10-9 on the season and Hutch is 4-8. Barton will be off from West play for 2 weeks and will not play at all until March 14 when the Cougars host defending NJCAA Champion Iowa Western for a 1 pm single game at Lawson-Biggs. MORE

Barton completes 5-game home series

The Barton Community College baseball team wrapped up its home opening 5-game series this past weekend with a 2-3 record after splitting games with McCook (Neb) Community College Sunday. Barton went 1-2 against Western Nebraska and is now 6-5 overall this season. The Cougars will open Jayhawk West play this weekend at Garden City in a 4-game series. Barton will be at home the opening week of March with a single game against Bethany JV and weekend series with Hutchinson on tap. MORE

Slauter and Slade sign letters to play baseball at next level

Two Barton Community College baseball players know their future for the next couple of years, signing letters of intent Wednesday to play at 4-year schools. Sophomores Mitch Slauter and Jordan Slade inked the letter on the 1st day of the early signing period. Slauter will be headed to Mississippi State University to play NCAA Division I baseball while Slade signed with Emporia State University – a national power in Division II baseball. MORE
