KJCCC men and ICCAC women win inaugural challenge track and field meet
The KJCCC men and ICCAC women captured the team titles in this past weekend’s inaugural KJCCC versus ICCAC Challenge collegiate track and field meet held at the Track/Soccer Complex on the campus of Barton Community College. In the women’s team challenge, the ICCAC ran away with the team title outscoring the KJCCC 114 to 57 while the KJCCC won the men’s title by defeating the ICCAC 97 to 74. MORE
About KJCCC conference teams
Barton highlights the KJCCC team as its men’s and women’s teams are coming off a second and third place finish at the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships and feature four national individual champions. Agata Klimovich in the 400 meter run and Yehaterina Miroshnikova in the one mile run both won championships for the Lady Cougars while Tayron Reyes and Jharyl Bowry won the 800 meter and long jump respectively for the Cougar men. Within the KJCCC Indoor Championships, the Cougars captured six events on the men’s side and five events on the women’s side.
At the national event Cloud finished tenth on the women’s side and twenty-ninth on the men’s side. The T-birds feature Josh Charles in the 400 meter while the Lady T-birds feature Chioma Agwundi in the 200 meter and jump events, along with Sean’e Mapson and Vanessa Resh in the mid-distances.
Cowley finished eighteenth on women’s side and fourteenth on men’s side at the national indoor meet. The Tigers feature sophomore Charles Ross, who became Cowley’s first-ever national champion in the 600 meter run, and 1,500 meter runner sophomore Jessalyn Lanoy who owns the Cowley school record in the 1,000 meter run.
About ICCAC conference teams
Iowa Central highlights the ICCAC team as the Tritons swept both the men’s and women’s national indoor titles. The Triton women won five events and feature the championship’s female track athlete of the meet winner Ebeissa Nyandwi. The men, who won two events at the national meet, feature both Stanley Kebenei and James White who won the male track and the male field athlete awards respectively.
The Iowa Western Reivers finished fourteenth on the women’s side and tenth on the men’s side as they sent thirty-two athletes to the national indoor championships. Although winning only one event, the Reivers feature freshman Rodrigo Rocha who won the 200 meter dash and set two new school records in both the 200 meter and the 60 meter.
The KJCCC versus ICCAC Challenge event is being brought to Barton by Head Track and Field Coach David Schenek. Basing the concept from other type of competitions, Schenek approached the respective schools and received the commitment for the annual event.
