Cougars wrap up with play at Region VI in Wichita

The Barton Community College softball team went 1-2 during the weekend at the Region VI Championships in Wichita to end its season. Barton beat Colby to start the double-elimination tournament then fell to Butler and Garden City to ends its season with a 5-32 record. Barton won 4 of its final 9 games of the year. MORE

Barton wins regular season finale; starts post season Saturday

The Barton Community College softball team picked up a win in the final regular season game of the year. Barton split games at Cougar Fields Friday with McCook (Neb) dropping the opening game 11-7 then winning the nightcap by a 6-5 score. Earlier in the week, Barton lost a pair to Butler in the final Jayhawk West games of the year. Barton will go to post-season with a 4-30 record and a 3-13 region record. The Cougars will be the 4 seed in the 5-team double elimination tournament, taking on 5th seed Colby to open play. The Region VI tournament will be held at Wilkins Stadium in Wichita on the campus of Wichita State University. Barton and Colby will open the event with a 10 am contest Saturday. The tournament will conclude Sunday. MORE

Cougars sweep Colby in Jayhawk play; No 4 seed in playoffs

The Barton Community College softball team earned its first sweep of the year Wednesday afternoon knocking off Colby twice at Cougar Fields 3-2 and 4-2. The wins give Barton the No 4 seed in the upcoming Region VI playoffs. The wins moved Barton to 3-27 overall and 3-11 in the region. Colby fell to 5-29 overall and 1-13 in the region. Barton lost a pair to Seward Monday at Cougar Fields, taking the 2nd game into the 7th at 0-0 before eventually losing 5-0. Barton lost the opener 9-0. Barton and Colby will meet again in the opening round of the playoffs in early May. The Cougars will close out their conference slate hosting Butler Wednesday of next week. MORE

Barton rally comes up short in opener against Pratt; Cougars lose pair

The Barton Community College softball team put together a 7th-inning rally Monday afternoon in its opener with Pratt at Cougar Fields but came up short. Barton also lost the 2nd game to the visiting Beavers. Barton lost 7-4 and 10-0 to Pratt. The Cougars lost over the weekend at Sterling twice as well. Barton is now 1-23 on the season. The Cougars will continue a run of home games with two more at Cougar Fields Wednesday and Thursday. Barton will host Garden City in Jayhawk West play Wednesday at 3 pm for a twinbill then play host to McCook College in a non-conference doubleheader Thursday at 2 pm.  MORE

Barton drops 4th 1-run game of season at McCook; loses 2 at Butler

The Barton Community College softball team lost a 1-run contest for the 4th time this season at McCook, Neb. Tuesday thanks to a walk-off home run by McCook College in the opener. McCook also won the nightcap to sweep the non-conference contests. Barton dropped a pair of Jayhawk West games late last week with at Butler in games that were originally scheduled to be played at Great Bend. Due to the weather the teams switched home dates and the contest was played at El Dorado. Barton is now 1-19 overall and 1-7 in the West. Barton will host Pratt Monday in a non-conference doubleheader at Cougars Fields. MORE

Barton picks up conference win with split at Colby

The Barton Community College softball team picked up its first win of the season with a split of Jayhawk West at Colby. The Cougars won the opener 8-2 in extra innings, scoring 6 runs on the top of the 8th. Barton lost the nightcap by a 7-4 score. Barton is 1-1 in the West and is 1-11 overall. Colby is 3-9 overall and also 1-1 in the conference. Barton will play four more conference road games this week at Seward County and Garden City. MORE

Cougars lose conference road tilts

The Barton Community College softball team lost 4 games in 2 days on the road in the Jayhawk West. Barton lost both ends of doubleheader at Seward Tuesday and did likewise at Garden City on Wednesday. The losses drop Barton to 1-5 in the West and 1-15 overall. Seward improved to 21-6 overall with the wins and 2-2 in the West. Garden City is now 21-8 and 2-0. MORE

Cougars still looking for wins

The Barton Community College softball team is still looking for its first win of the season after dropping a pair of doubleheaders recently. The Cougars lost three of those games by 4 runs or less including its 3rd 1-run loss of the season. The Cougars lost a doubleheader to Brown Mackie at Cougar Fields then were swept in Winfield by Southwestern. Barton is now 0-10 on the year.  MORE

Softball off to sluggish start; host Brown Mackie Thursday

The Barton Community College softball team dropped 4 games back-to-back days, just missing out on a pair of wins this past week. The Cougars lost two at home Wednesday to Cloud County, 9-0 and 8-7 then dropped two at Hutchinson the next day 5-4 and 8-2. Barton is now 0-6 on the young season – all non conference games with the Region VI softball setup. Barton will look for its 1st wins of the season Thursday when Brown Mackie comes to Cougars Fields for a 2 pm doubleheader. MORE

Fall Softball starts September 11-12 in Dodge City

The Barton Community College softball team will start off its fall season September 11-12 at Dodge City in tournament play. The Cougars will have 4 separate 2-day tournaments as well as a pair of single games to round out the 10 dates allowed for Fall Softball. The lone Cougar home contest will be September 28 when Hutchinson comes in for a 2 pm start time as Barton prepares for the spring season – the 2nd under Coach Heather Panning.  MORE
