Cougars drop road conference game to Dodge City

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team finished the week 0-2 in conference play as Dodge City defeated the Cougars 91-86 Saturday night at Dodge City.  Despite outscoring the Conquistadors 51-47 in the second half, Dodge’s nine point halftime lead was too much for the Cougars to overcome.  With the loss Barton drops to 14-2 on the season while Dodge City improves to 14-2 and 2-0 in conference play.   The Cougars will look to get a win in the young conference season as they host Garden City on Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m.  After an opening the conference season with a victory over Butler CC, Garden lost at home this past Saturday to No. 10 Hutchinson 81-72.

Lady Cougars pick up first conference win on road at Dodge City

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team picked up their first Jayhawk West conference win Saturday night in Dodge City.  The Lady Cougars fought back from an early seven point second half deficit to pick up the 71-64 victory.  Barton improves to 11-5 on the season and even their conference record at 1-1 while Dodge drops to 8-8 overall and 0-2 in conference play.  Barton will be back at home this Wednesday for a 6:00 p.m. conference game against with Garden City.  Garden City, 9-7 on the season, lost its first conference game of the year 80-55 on Saturday to No. 3 Hutchinson.  MORE

Baseball offering winter camps

Barton Baseball is offering a baseball camp through the month of January.  Available for ages 7-18 years old, participants will get specialized training in the pitching and hitting aspects of the game.  Cost is $45 for hitting or pitching or $65 for both aspects.  The camps begin on January 7 and conclude on January 29, with ages 7-12 conducted on Saturdays and ages 13-18 conducted on Sundays. No. 7 Cougars suffer first loss of season; fall to Seward in KJCCC season opener

The No. 7 ranked Barton Community College men’s basketball team dropped their first game of the season losing 73-67 to Seward County Community College Wednesday night at the Barton Gym.  After leading by twelve at the break, the Cougars were outscored by eighteen points in the second half to drop its Jayhawk West conference opener.  With the loss Barton falls to 14-1 on the season while Seward improves to 13-2.  Barton will look to rebound this Saturday as they travel to Dodge City to take on the Conquistadors in a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.  Much like Seward, Dodge City picked up a big conference road win as they defeated No. 10 Hutchinson 78-75.  More    Stats

Lady Cougars fall to #10 Lady Saints in KJCCC season opener

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team opened Jayhawk West play Wednesday night at the Barton Gym losing 75-57 to No. 10 ranked Seward County Community College.   After being tied with just under eleven minutes to play, Barton was outscored by eighteen point the rest of the way to drop to 10-5 on the season while Seward improves to 12-2.  Barton will travel to dodge City on Saturday for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off with the Lady Conquistadors.  Dodge City suffered its first loss of the conference season as well as they lost to No. 3 Hutchinson 104-43.  Stats

Paula da Silva receives All-American Awards

Paula da SilvaLeading the Barton Community College volleyball team to the KJCCC West Division title and its second straight Region VI Championship, the accolades continue to roll in for Paula da Silva.  The freshman from Uberlandia, Brazil, recently received honorable mention NJCAA Division I Volleyball All-American status and second team honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).   Da Silva’s recent honors add to her Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year awards for both the Jayhawk West All-Conference and All-Region VI teams.   MORE

Men's basketball moves up to No. 8 in national poll

Fresh off a weekend sweep to improve their record to 14-0, the Barton Community College men’s basketball team moved from No. 11 up to No. 8 in the recently released NJCAA Division I national poll.  Barton is among nine fellow KJCCC schools either in the top twenty or receiving votes, with six of the nine coming from the West Division.  Fellow West Division school Hutchinson Community College is ranked No. 11 while East Division schools Coffeyville Community College and Kansas City Kansas Community College are ranked Nos. 6 and 15 respectively.  Seward County Community College, Barton’s next opponent, is receiving votes and stands at 8-2 on the season. This past weekend in the Best Western Angus Inn Classic, Barton defeated Fort Scott Community College 71-56 on Friday and Brown Mackie College 85-73 on Saturday. 

The Cougars are finished with their non-conference portion of the schedule and will take a break from action until January 4, 2012, when Barton opens conference play at home against Seward. 

Harris named NJCAA and Jayhawk Conference women’s basketball player of the week

Dionne HarrisA day after being named the KJCCC Verizon Wireless Co-Player of the Week, Barton Community College women’s basketball player Dionne Harris has also been named the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week.  Harris, a sophomore from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, averaged a double-double this past week with sixteen points and ten rebounds. Harris was also instrumental in Barton’s 63-61 victory Saturday night over No. 3 ranked Independence Community College by grabbing eleven rebounds, two steals, and scoring eighteen of her twenty-three points in the second half.  Harris shares the conference honor with Highland Community College’s Kathryn Thomas.   MORE

Lady Cougars knock off #3 ranked team in the nation

Taschell Phillips vs Independence Community College on December 3, 2011The Barton Community College women’s basketball team knocked off No. 3 ranked Independence Community College 63-61 Saturday night in the Best Western Angus Inn Classic held at Barton.  The Lady Cougars overcame a ten-point second half deficit to defeat the previously undefeated Pirates.  With the win the Lady Cougars end the first half of their season and head to Christmas break with a 10-4 record.  Barton will next play on January 4 against Seward County Community College in Jayhawk Conference openers for both teams.  MORE

Cougar basketball enters national rankings, defeat McPherson College JV

Dwayne Brunson throws down a first half dunk against McPherson College JVMaking its debut in the recently released NJCAA Division I national poll, the No. 16 Barton Community College men’s basketball team shook off a pesky McPherson College Junior Varsity for a 94-54 victory Tuesday night at the Barton Gym.  The 10-0 Cougar men, along with the Lady Cougar basketball team, will play a couple of games this weekend in the Hesston Classic.  On Friday both teams will take on the host Hesston College in 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. games respectively.  The Barton-Hesston men’s game will be a rematch of the Cougar’s 112-65 win back on November 3.   On Saturday the Lady Cougars will play Brown Mackie College at 2:00 p.m. followed by the Cougar men taking on Northern Oklahoma College-Enid at 4:00 pm.  MORE

Geisick signs with Newman University

Lady Cougars season comes to an end at national championships

The Barton Community College volleyball team had their season come to an end Friday at the NJCAA Division I Volleyball National Tournament held at West Plains, Missouri.  The No. 14 seeded Lady Cougars lost for the second consecutive day as No. 11 Temple College defeated Barton 25-23, 25-17, and 25-22.  With the loss, the two-time Region VI Champions ends its season with a 29-14 record.  MORE

Lady Cougar Volleyball falls in opening match of national championships

The Barton Community College volleyball team dropped their first match today at the NJCAA Division I Volleyball National Tournament held at West Plains, Missouri.  Barton, making its twenty-first appearance at the national tournament and seeded No. 14 this year, lost to No. 3 seeded Western Wyoming Community College 25-13, 25-21, and 25-19.   Similar to last year’s first round matchup between the two teams, Western Wyoming knocks the 29-13 Lady Cougars to the consolation side of the double-elimination tournament with 9th place being the best it can achieve at this point.  Barton’s next match will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday against Temple College with the winner advancing to the 4:30 p.m. match.  Temple, the No. 11 tournament seed, lost to No. 6 Iowa Western 25-20, 25-22, and 25-17.   The Barton-Temple match, as well as, all Barton matches in the NJCAA Tournament can be viewed online at www.BartonSports.comMORE

Cougars tune up for upcoming weekend classic, defeat Southwestern College JV 113-57

In a final tune up for its upcoming weekend classic, the Barton Community College men’s basketball team struggled early but found its high tempo offense in defeating Southwestern College Junior Varsity 113-57 Tuesday night at the Barton Gym.  The 6-0 Cougars will play three games this weekend in the Highland Hotel Booster Club Classic which includes fellow Jayhawk Conference members Independence Community College and Labette Community College.  Barton will play at 7:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday against Independence and Labette respectively, then wrap up the Classic with a 3:00 p.m. game on Sunday against Frank Phillips College.  MORE

Lady Cougars use 10-0 early run in victory over Southwestern 67-48

Building a ten point lead in the first four minutes of the contest, the Barton Community College women’s basketball team went on to a comfortable 67-48 victory over Southwestern College Junior Varsity Tuesday night at the Barton Gym.   The Lady Cougars, who improve to 5-2 on the season, will play fellow Jayhawk Conference members Coffeyville Community College and Labette Community College this weekend in the Highland Hotel Booster Club Classic.  Barton will play Coffeyville at 5:00 p.m. on Friday and Labette at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.  MORE

Two Barton baseball players sign Division I letters of intent

Head Baseball Coach Mike Warren watches Frederico Castagnini and Jason Harris sign Division I letters of intentTwo Barton Community College baseball players signed NCAA Division I letters of intent Thursday at the Kirkman Activity Center on the Barton campus.  Sophomores Federico Castagnini and Jason Harris committed to four-year schools on the second day of the early signing period.  Both players will move on to nationally acclaimed schools as Castagnini signed with Creighton University and Harris signed with the University of North Carolina Charlotte.  MORE  






Three Lady Cougar Volleyball players named All-Conference/All-Region; da Silva and Hall earn top awards

Having won the KJCCC West Division and Region VI Championship, the accolades continue to roll in for the Barton Community College volleyball team as post-season awards were announced today.  The Lady Cougars placed three players and its head coach on the Jayhawk West All-conference and All-Region VI team.   Headlining the selections is freshman Paula da Silva who was chosen as both the Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year.  Joining da Silva on the 1st Team is sophomore Juliana Melo de Barros while sophomore Taylor Arnold earned honorable mention recognition.   Head Coach Patrick Hall, in his first season at Barton, was chosen as the Coach of the Year.  MORE

Cougar basketball tops century mark for third time in 121-67 victory over Tabor

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team kept its streak of eclipsing the century mark intact as the Cougars defeated Tabor College Junior Varsity Tuesday night 121-67 at the Barton Gym.  With the victory Barton improves to 3-0 on the early season but will face its toughest test this weekend.  The Cougars travel to Salina for the Salina Classic to play Kansas Wesleyan JV at 3:00 pm. on Friday then face the always tough Brown Mackie Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.  MORE

Fast start propels Lady Cougar Basketball to big victory over Tabor

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team got a much needed win tonight defeating Tabor College Junior Varsity 74-27.   After dropping its last two games this past weekend in Midland, Texas, the Lady Cougars used a 10-0 run to open the game and cruised to the forty-seven point win.  With the victory, Barton evens its season record at 2-2 heading into this week-end’s Hutchinson Classic.  The Lady Cougars will play Marshalltown on Friday and Neosho Community College on Saturday, with both games starting at 1:30 p.m. at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.  MORE

Lady Cougars win Region VI Championship, head to National Tournament for second straight year

The Barton Community College volleyball team held off Seward County Community College on Sunday to capture the Region VI Division I Volleyball Championship held at Newman University in Wichita.  After defeating Seward on Saturday in relative easy fashion, Barton was forced to a second championship match following the Lady Saints’ come-from-behind five-set win in the first championship match.   In the winner-take-all second championship match, the Lady Cougars were pushed to four sets but captured their second straight Region VI title and earned their second straight trip to the NJCAA Division I Volleyball National Tournament.  MORE

Lady Cougars sweep matches on Saturday, play in Region VI Championship on Sunday

The Barton Community College volleyball team won both of their matches in impressive fashion Saturday in the Region VI playoffs held at Newman University in Wichita.  Barton started the day with a three-set sweep of Hutchinson Community College and then followed with another sweep of Seward County Community College in the winner’s bracket finals.  Barton, the top seed in the tournament, will play in the championship game on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. against the Hutchinson-Seward winner. Lady Cougar Basketball open season with romp over Bethany JV

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team opened its 2011-12 season with a 81-43 win over Bethany College JV Tuesday night at the Barton Gym. The Lady Cougars held the Lady Swedes to 22 percent shooting and forced thirty turnovers in giving Darin Spence his first victory as the Barton Head Coach.  Barton will take to the road this weekend traveling to Midland, Texas, for the Midland College Tip-Off Classic.  The Lady Cougars will take on host and No. 3 ranked Midland College on Friday and Chochise College on Saturday.  Barton will return home for a November 8 contest against the Tabor College junior varsity.  MORE
