However, Colby wasn’t about to let the Lady Cougars celebrate on their home floor as they defeated Barton in five sets 22-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-19, and 15-8. With the loss the Lady Cougars see their unbeaten conference season come to a halt and fall to 11-1 in conference play and 23-11 overall while Colby improves to 10-3 in conference and 25-12 overall. With the win the Lady Cougars wrapped up its regular season with a 9-7-1 record and guaranteed its fifth straight winning season. Barton also secured a fifth place finish in the conference and region improving to 8-4 in conference play and 9-4 in the region. Barton Community College men's soccer goalkeeper Nicholas Alexander has been named week eight’s KJCCC Verizon Wireless Goalkeeper of the Week. Alexander, a freshman from Wilmington, Delaware, is 15-3 on the season while recording his seventh shutout of the season last week against Northern Oklahoma College. Playing 270 minutes in goal this past week, Alexander turned away eight shots surrendering two goals with one coming via a penalty kick. MORE
Barton Community College volleyball player Paula da Silva becomes the second Lady Cougar player to be named the KJCCC Volleyball Verizon Wireless Player of the Week twice this year. Da Silva, a freshman middle blocker from Uberlandia, Brazil, hit over .300 and recorded 100 kills, including 30 in one match, as the Lady Cougars played four ranked or previously ranked teams. Da Silva’s performance was even more amazing because of having to move from her normal middle position to the outside during last weekend’s games due to recent team injuries. MORE

Finishing its regular season today with a 10-7 record, the Cougars will now play the waiting game to find out who they will play as the conference schedule still has a week remaining. Trailing 1-0 at halftime Barton quickly even the score just 1:38 into the second half on a Jessica Rosenberg goal coming from a Monica McCarthy assist. In a battle for the top spot in the Jayhawk Conference standings, Cowley College shocked the No. 6 ranked Barton Community College men’s soccer team in a 2-1 victory in Arkansas City. Tied at 0-0 at halftime Cowley quickly scored just two and a half minutes into the second half. The Cougars responded with a Fabio Priore de Almeida goal just a minute later to tie the score. Due to a recent NJCAA ruling, Barton Community College men’s soccer will forfeit four victories achieved in the early portion of this year’s 2011 schedule. The forfeitures are the result of a NJCAA interpretation of eligibility requirements for amateur student-athletes. MORE

Barton would trail 3-0 with just under nine minutes remaining in the first half before freshman Courtney Galliher scored off a creative assist by sophomore Bailey Avery. However the Lady Cougars could get no closer as Cloud added four more and dropped Barton to the .500 mark in conference play and 3-5 on the season. The Cougars are off to a 2-0 start after dispatching Kansas Wesleyan JV 6-0 on Friday and No. 7 ranked Otero College on Sunday. The Barton Community College volleyball team is ranked No. 16 according to the recently released NJCAA Division I preseason poll. Last season the Lady Cougars won the Region VI Championship and made their 20th appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament. Barton is joined in the poll by three other Jayhawk Conference teams. Seward County Community College is the only other ranked team coming in at No. 18 while Colby Community College and Hutchinson Community College are receiving votes. MORE

The Cougars are coming off back-to-back appearances in the NJCAA Division I National Championships. Last season the Cougars finished 3rd which followed a 7th place finish in 2009 at the tournament. The Barton Community College soccer program is offering soccer camps August 1-4. These camps are open to boys and girls ages 4-17 years old regardless of skill and ability levels. Cost is $50 per person (Ages 4-6) or $60 per person (Ages 7-18). Participants will receive a camp t-shirt, ball, individual and team instruction, and in-game situation instruction. MORE
Carter Kruger enters his first season as women’s assistant basketball coach at Barton Community College. Prior to coming to Barton, Kruger spent two seasons as the assistant coach at Garden City Community College. Kruger replaces Ben Lister who recently became the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Baker University.
The Barton Community College volleyball program is offering volleyball camps during the month of July. Open to middle school and high school aged participants, pre-enrollment is encouraged as camps fill quickly. Cost is $75 per person as participants receive a camp t-shirt, individual instruction, and in-game situation instruction. MORE
Shawn Uhlenhake will be taking over the Barton Community College women’s soccer program as the Cougars’ new head coach for the 2011 season. Uhlenhake was recently hired to replace Bryan Sailer, who accepted the Emporia State University’s Head Women’s Soccer coach job earlier this month. MORE
The Barton Community College women’s golf team finished 17th at the 2011 NJCAA National Golf Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla. this past week. After rounds about 420 the opening two days, Barton got comfortable with the LPGA International Golf Course and shot 410 and 404 the final two days to move into 17th. It is the school’s highest finish since a 10th place effort in 2006. Host Daytona State won the event with Redlands College (Okla) taking 2nd. MORE
The search for a new Barton Community College women’s soccer coach has began to replace the school’s all-time winningest coach in that sport. Bryan Sailer has accepted the same job at Emporia State University. Sailer leaves Barton after the 4 most successful seasons in the Cougars brief 10-year program. He will take over June 1 at the NCAA Division II after his teams rewrote the record at Barton. MORE
Trevor Rolfs has been hired as the new athletic director at Barton Community College taking over full-time in a position that was part-time the past two years. Barton men’s basketball coach Craig Fletchall had held the position for two years along with his basketball duties but will now just coach while Rolfs takes over the department. MORE
Patrick Hall will be taking over the Barton Community College volleyball as the Cougars new head coach for the 2011 season. Hall was hired recently to replace Jaime Cabral. Hall comes to Barton from just down the road at another Jayhawk West school. Hall has been the head coach at Pratt for the past 5 seasons, where he earned 3 Jayhawk West Coach of the Year awards.
