Men’s Soccer season ends with Region VI semifinal 4-0 defeat to Cloud County

The Barton Community College men’s soccer team bid for a third straight Region VI title ended Saturday falling 4-0 to No. 10 ranked Cloud County Community at Topeka’s Hummer Park.  The Cougars end the season at 12-8 while Cloud, who went on to win the Region VI title, will take an 18-1-3 record to the Plains District Tournament next weekend in Concordia.  MORE

Lady Cougar Volleyball wraps up regular season by sweeping Seward County

Facing the possibility of a letdown due to wrapping up the Jayhawk West Division title on Monday, the Barton Community College volleyball team took care of business tonight at the Barton Gym by sweeping Seward County Community College 25-19, 25-17, and 25-20.  The Lady Cougars, who earned the top seed in next week’s Region VI Championships, finish the regular season at 13-1 in conference play and 25-11 overall while Seward will take the third seed with a 9-5 conference record and 21-14 overall.   MORE

Men’s Soccer opens region play with 7-1 victory over Johnson; Quest for three continues

The Barton Community College men’s soccer team began their quest for its third straight Region VI title today at Cougar Field by defeating Johnson County Community College 7-1.  The Cougars advance to the region semifinals at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday at Topeka’s Hummer Park against Cloud County Community College who recorded 3-0 shutout victory today over Pratt Community College.  MORE

Lady Cougars secure Jayhawk West title with win over Cloud

The Barton Community College volleyball team bounced back from its first conference loss last week to sweep Cloud County Community College tonight at the Barton Gym 25-16, 25-14, and 25-22.  With the victory the Lady Cougars clinched the outright Jayhawk West Division title with one match remaining on Wednesday against Seward County Community College while also securing the number one seed in next week’s Region VI Championships.   Barton improves to 12-1 in conference play and 24-11 while Cloud drops to 1-12 in conference play and 5-27 overall.  MORE

Lady Cougar soccer season ends in region playoffs; lose 6-2 to Cloud

The Barton Community College women's soccer team saw its season come to an end today in Concordia as the Lady Cougars fell to Cloud County Community College 6-2 in the first round of the Region VI playoffs.  Despite the loss, Barton completed its fifth straight winning season by finishing with 9-8-1 while Cloud continues to the region semifinals with a 15-4 record.  MORE

Colby ends Barton Volleyball’s unbeaten run thru Jayhawk, win in five sets

Already securing at least a tie for the Jayhawk West conference title, the Barton Community College volleyball team hoped they could clinch the title outright tonight in Colby against second place Colby Community College.   However, Colby wasn’t about to let the Lady Cougars celebrate on their home floor as they defeated Barton in five sets 22-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-19, and 15-8.  With the loss the Lady Cougars see their unbeaten conference season come to a halt and fall to 11-1 in conference play and 23-11 overall while Colby improves to 10-3 in conference and 25-12 overall.  Barton still controls its own destiny for the outright title needing to win one of their remaining two regular season matches next week at the friendly confines of the Barton Gym.  MORE

Lady Cougar soccer concludes regular season with 3-1 victory and fifth straight winning season

The Barton Community College women's soccer team took to the conference road tonight and defeated Garden City Community College 3-1.  With the win the Lady Cougars wrapped up its regular season with a 9-7-1 record and guaranteed its fifth straight winning season.  Barton also secured a fifth place finish in the conference and region improving to 8-4 in conference play and 9-4 in the region.  The Lady Cougars return to the road to play their Region VI first round playoff game on Monday, October 24, against an opponent yet to be determined.  MORE

Alexander becomes third Barton Soccer player to receive conference weekly award

Barton Community College men's soccer goalkeeper Nicholas Alexander has been named week eight’s KJCCC Verizon Wireless Goalkeeper of the Week.  Alexander, a freshman from Wilmington, Delaware, is 15-3 on the season while recording his seventh shutout of the season last week against Northern Oklahoma College.  Playing 270 minutes in goal this past week, Alexander turned away eight shots surrendering two goals with one coming via a penalty kick.  MORE

Paula da Silva becomes Barton’s second two-time Jayhawk Conference volleyball player of the week

Barton Community College volleyball player Paula da Silva becomes the second Lady Cougar player to be named the KJCCC Volleyball Verizon Wireless Player of the Week twice this year.  Da Silva, a freshman middle blocker from Uberlandia, Brazil, hit over .300 and recorded 100 kills, including 30 in one match, as the Lady Cougars played four ranked or previously ranked teams.  Da Silva’s performance was even more amazing because of having to move from her normal middle position to the outside during last weekend’s games due to recent team injuries.  MORE

Baseball welcomes back Alumni

The Barton Baseball program enjoyed a weekend of activities in their annual Alumni Weekend.  Over 30 alumn returned to Great Bend and Lawson-Biggs Field to reminisce and instruct current Cougar Baseball team members.  Former Barton and current San Francisco Giant pitcher Steve Edlefsen was amongst the alumn as he presented Head Coach Mike Warren with his MLB debut jersey.  Edlefsen made his debut August 29th against the Chicago Cubs.   MORE

Cougar Soccer clinch first round home playoff game; defeat KCK 3-1

The Barton Community College men's soccer team secured a Region VI first round home playoff game by defeating Kansas City Kansas Community College today in Kansas City 3-1.  Finishing its regular season today with a 10-7 record, the Cougars will now play the waiting game to find out who they will play as the conference schedule still has a week remaining.  Barton finishes the conference at 8-2 and 8-3 in region play, having forfeited four victories earlier in the season which included one conference and two region games.  MORE

Cougars drop three to national competition; beat Seward for second time

With hopes of a return trip next month for the NJCAA Division I Championships, the No. 19 ranked Barton Community College volleyball team had a rough visit this time around to West Plains, Missouri, as the Lady Cougars went 1-3 this weekend.   After capturing a four-set victory against Seward County Community College in their first match of the Missouri State University-West Plains Tournament, the team fought through injuries and players filling new positions to limp home losing their last three matches.  MORE

Volleyball survives five set conference battle with Hutchinson

Tearing through the Jayhawk Conference for virtually the entire season, the No. 19 ranked Barton Community College volleyball team struggled tonight but prevailed in a five set thriller over Hutchinson Community College.  In running its undefeated conference record to 10-0, Barton lost as many sets tonight as it has done all conference season.  The 21-7 Lady Cougars will get its final chance to impress the national pollsters as they travel to Missouri this weekend to face fellow ranked opponents in the MSU-West Plains Tournament.  MORE

The Barton Community College women's soccer team won today at Cougar Field 2-0 against Allen Community College.   The Lady Cougars improve to 8-6-1 on the season while remaining tied for fourth place at 7-3 with just two games remaining.  Barton concludes their regular season home schedule this Friday at Cougar Field in a 4:00 p.m. kick-off against No. 11 nationally ranked Butler Community College.  MORE

Juliana Melo de Barros again named national and conference volleyball player of the week

For the second consecutive week Barton Community College volleyball player Juliana Melo de Barros has been named the NJCAA and KJCCC Volleyball Verizon Wireless Player of the Week.  De Barros, a sophomore setter from Sao Paulo, Brazil, was also selected as the National Player of the Week last week.  De Barros continues to post remarkable numbers for the Cougars, directing the offense on the way to dishing out 158 assists, a 9.8 assist/set average.  A first team member of last year’s Jayhawk West All-Conference team and Barton’s reigning Region VI Championship team, de Barros has been integral in leading the No. 19 ranked Lady Cougars to a 20-7 record on the season including an undefeated 9-0 in conference play.  MORE

On a day where the offense attack wasn’t hitting its mark, the Barton Community College men's soccer team defense stepped up to preserve a 1-0 victory over Northern Oklahoma College –Tonkawa today at Cougar Field.  The non-conference win improved the Cougars overall record to 9-7 on the season with two conference games remaining starting with Wednesday’s home finale against Allen County Community College. The Barton Community College women's soccer team started their challenging week of games today at Cougar Field with a scoreless tie with Northern Oklahoma College –Tonkawa.  Stepping out of conference play in today’s action, the Lady Cougars remain tied for fourth place in the Jayhawk Conference at 6-3 while moving their record to 7-6-1 on the season.  Barton has three remaining games with the next two at home beginning with Allen County Community College on Wednesday.  MORE

Cougar Soccer get needed win by defeating Independence 6-2

Suffering a rare conference loss earlier in the week, the Barton Community College men's soccer team returned to its winning custom on Saturday by defeating Independence Community College 6-2 at Cougar Field.  Barton improves to 6-2 in the conference and 8-7 on the season with an outside chance of still tying for the conference title with some help from other teams.  The Cougars will face a tough week ahead as they will play three games in five days beginning with a non-conference game Tuesday at home against Northern Oklahoma College – Tonkawa.  MORE

Lady Cougar Soccer triumph 2-0 over Independence

The Barton Community College women's soccer team battled through poor weather conditions and shut out Independence Community College 2-0 Saturday at Cougar Field.  The win keeps the Lady Cougars tied for fourth place in the Jayhawk Conference at 6-3 and improves to 7-6 on the season.  After a couple of days rest, Barton will play three games at home in four days in the week ahead starting with a non-conference game Tuesday at home against Northern Oklahoma College – Tonkawa.  MORE

 

 

Barton Volleyball dominates in road conference sweep of Dodge City; de Barros just misses another triple-double

The Barton Community College Volleyball team started a little slow tonight in Dodge City but controlled the rest of the match to sweep Dodge City Community College 25-19, 25-12, and 25-13.  With the sweep the Lady Cougars continued their dominance in the Jayhawk West winning 27 of 29 sets played thus far in the conference season.  Barton maintains its two game lead in the conference at 9-0 and improves to 16-6 on the season.  MORE

Lady Cougar soccer picks up big 2-1 road conference victory over Cowley

The Barton Community College women’s soccer team won their third straight game by defeating Cowley College tonight in Arkansas City.   Trailing 1-0 at halftime Barton quickly even the score just 1:38 into the second half on a Jessica Rosenberg goal coming from a Monica McCarthy assist.  The game appeared heading into extra play until Rachel Ukena scored Barton’s game winning goal with only 4:06 left on the clock.  The Lady Cougars remain in 4th place in the conference standings at 5-3 while improving their overall record to 6-6 on the season.  MORE

Cowley shocks #6 Barton men’s soccer 2-1

In a battle for the top spot in the Jayhawk Conference standings, Cowley College shocked the No. 6 ranked Barton Community College men’s soccer team in a 2-1 victory in Arkansas City.  Tied at 0-0 at halftime Cowley quickly scored just two and a half minutes into the second half.  The Cougars responded with a Fabio Priore de Almeida goal just a minute later to tie the score.  Cowley would get the game clincher with fourteen minutes to play and thus send the Cougars home with a rare conference defeat.  MORE

Men’s Soccer to forfeit four games

Due to a recent NJCAA ruling, Barton Community College men’s soccer will forfeit four victories achieved in the early portion of this year’s 2011 schedule.  The forfeitures are the result of a NJCAA interpretation of eligibility requirements for amateur student-athletes. MORE

#1 Men’s Soccer loses 3-2 to Laramie

The Barton Community College men’s soccer team has found being the nation’s top ranked team is not an easy road as they lost Sunday 3-2 to host Laramie County in Cheyenne, Wyoming.   In its previous two games as the No. 1 team, Barton won by one goal in each contest.  On Tuesday Barton had to rally from one-down to win 3-2 in the second extra time against No. 15 Cloud County then on Saturday the Cougars won a 1-0 decision over Northwest College. #2 Cougar Soccer defeats #16 Cloud County in double overtime thriller

The Barton Community College men's soccer team came from behind today in Concordia and defeated No. 16 ranked Cloud County Community College 3-2 in the second half of extra time.  With the win the Cougars remain unbeaten in conference play and move to 8-1 on the season.  Barton will travel to Cheyenne, Wyoming later this week in non-conference action.  The Cougars will play Northwest College on Saturday at 1:30pm then face host Laramie County Community College at noon on Sunday.  MORE

Lady Cougar soccer drops 7-1 decision to Cloud County

The Lady Cougar soccer team lost to Cloud County 7-1 today in Concordia.  Barton would trail 3-0 with just under nine minutes remaining in the first half before freshman Courtney Galliher scored off a creative assist by sophomore Bailey Avery.  However the Lady Cougars could get no closer as Cloud added four more and dropped Barton to the .500 mark in conference play and 3-5 on the season.   Next up for the Lady Cougars will be a trip to Hutchinson on Saturday September 24 to take on the Lady Dragons at 2:00pm.

Volleyball's Paula da Silva named conference player of the week

Barton Community College volleyball player Paula da Silva has been named the KJCCC Verizon Wireless Player of the week.  Da Silva, a freshman middle blocker from Uberlandia, Brazil, recorded 16 kills with zero errors in 19 attempts including eight kills in her first eight attempts.  She has also helped lead the No. 12 ranked Lady Cougars to an 8-0 start on the season and 24 straight set victories. Juliana de Barros records triple-double in Volleyball's sweep of Hutchinson

Barton Community College Volleyball player Juliana de Barros led the Barton sweep of Hutchinson Monday night by recording a rare triple/double.  De Barros had 25 assists, 15 digs, and 11 kills in the 25-17, 25-19, 25-17 Lady Cougar win.  The victory pushed Barton to 4-0 conference record, 8-0 overall, and 24-0 in sets. Cougar Soccer earns 4-1 victory over Coffeyville

The Barton Community College men's soccer team earned a hard fought 4-1 victory today over Coffeyville Community College.  After leading 1-0 at halftime and being tied with thirty-four minutes remaining, the Cougars scored three goals in the next thirty minutes to earn its fifth victory of the season against one loss.  The No. 3 nationally ranked Cougars will have a week off to before hosting Neosho Community College on September 14.  MORE

The Barton Community College women's soccer team went on an offensive attack today at Cougar Field and beat Coffeyville Community College 10-0.  The victory was the second on the season for the Lady Cougars and comes after a disappointing 6-0 shutout loss against Maple Woods on Tuesday.  Barton improves to 2-3 on the season and will have the week off until they host Neosho Community College on Wednesday, September 14.  MORE

#11 Lady Cougar Volleyball Extend Winning Streak to Seven

A superb defensive effort by the Cougars,  and a sixteen kill performance from Paula da Silva, extended the Barton Volleyball team’s 2011 record to 7-0 with a 25-18, 25-19, 25-18 win over Dodge City on Wednesday night.  The Cougars have yet to drop a single set and are now 21-0.  Barton, currently ranked #11 in the nation, remains in first place in the Jayhawk Conference. Barton Community College men's soccer player Lippi Souza has been named week two KJCCC Verizon Wireless Player of the Week.  Souza, a sophomore from Shawnee, Kansas, scored a phenomenal thirty-yard kick last week against Hesston College and the game winning goal Sunday against No. 9 San Jacinto College.  For the week Souza scored two goals on five shots on goal. The Barton Community College men's soccer team showed no signs of a letdown after Sunday’s victory over No. 7 Otero by dismantling Hesston College 10-0 today.  The Cougars move to 3-0 on the season and have outscored their opponents 18-0.  Barton will travel to Tyler, TX this weekend to play the No. 1 and No. 9 teams in the country. Braga named KJCCC men’s soccer player of the week

Barton Community College men's soccer player Vinicius Braga has been named the KJCCC Verizon Wireless Player of the Week.  Braga, a sophomore from Sao Paulo, Brazil, scored the game winning goal Sunday against No. 7 Otero.  He also helped anchor a tough defense to two shutout victories over the week-end which included only 5 shots on goal. Fresh off its opening two-win week-end, the Cougars are back in action today against Hesston College.  Game time is 4:00pm at Cougar Field.

Cougar Soccer starts 2011 season with home opener victories

The Barton Community College men's soccer team started the 2011 campaign impressively this past week-end officially christening their new turf field.  The Cougars are off to a 2-0 start after dispatching Kansas Wesleyan JV 6-0 on Friday and No. 7 ranked Otero College on Sunday.  The No. 3 ranked Cougars are back in action on Tuesday at home against Hesston College.

Volleyball sweeps through Invitational

Barton Volleyball ranked No. 16 in NJCAA preseason poll

The Barton Community College volleyball team is ranked No. 16 according to the recently released NJCAA Division I preseason poll.  Last season the Lady Cougars won the Region VI Championship and made their 20th appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament.  Barton is joined in the poll by three other Jayhawk Conference teams.  Seward County Community College is the only other ranked team coming in at No. 18 while Colby Community College and Hutchinson Community College are receiving votes.  MORE

Barton Men's Soccer ranked No. 3 in NJCAA preseason poll

The Barton Community College men's soccer team comes in at No. 3 in the recently released NJCAA preseason poll.  The Cougars are coming off back-to-back appearances in the NJCAA Division I National Championships.  Last season the Cougars finished 3rd which followed a 7th place finish in 2009 at the tournament. Barton is the lone Jayhawk conference team ranked in the early poll.  MORE

Spence to take over Barton women's basketball program

Pending Board of Trustees’ approval on August 18, Darin Spence will be named head women’s basketball coach at Barton Community College.  Spence will replace Keith Ferguson who recently resigned his position at Barton. (Complete bio will be released soon.)

Soccer Camp Information

The Barton Community College soccer program is offering soccer camps August 1-4.  These camps are open to boys and girls ages 4-17 years old regardless of skill and ability levels. Cost is $50 per person (Ages 4-6) or $60 per person (Ages 7-18).  Participants will receive a camp t-shirt, ball, individual and team instruction, and in-game situation instruction.  MORE

Kruger joins Barton women’s basketball program

Carter Kruger enters his first season as women’s assistant basketball coach at Barton Community College.  Prior to coming to Barton, Kruger spent two seasons as the assistant coach at Garden City Community College.  Kruger replaces Ben Lister who recently became the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Baker University.

Volleyball Camp Information

The Barton Community College volleyball program is offering volleyball camps during the month of July.  Open to middle school and high school aged participants, pre-enrollment is encouraged as camps fill quickly.   Cost is $75 per person as participants receive a camp t-shirt, individual instruction, and in-game situation instruction.  MORE

Uhlenhake takes over Barton women’s soccer program

Shawn Uhlenhake will be taking over the Barton Community College women’s soccer program as the Cougars’ new head coach for the 2011 season. Uhlenhake was recently hired to replace Bryan Sailer, who accepted the Emporia State University’s Head Women’s Soccer coach job earlier this month. MORE

Barton women 17th at NJCAA National Tournament

The Barton Community College women’s golf team finished 17th at the 2011 NJCAA National Golf Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla. this past week. After rounds about 420 the opening two days, Barton got comfortable with the LPGA International Golf Course and shot 410 and 404 the final two days to move into 17th. Sailer headed to Emporia State; search for new women’s soccer coach underway

The search for a new Barton Community College women’s soccer coach has began to replace the school’s all-time winningest coach in that sport. Bryan Sailer has accepted the same job at Emporia State University. Sailer leaves Barton after the 4 most successful seasons in the Cougars brief 10-year program. He will take over June 1 at the NCAA Division II after his teams rewrote the record at Barton. MORE

Rolfs selected to be Barton’s new athletic director

Trevor Rolfs has been hired as the new athletic director at Barton Community College taking over full-time in a position that was part-time the past two years. Barton men’s basketball coach Craig Fletchall had held the position for two years along with his basketball duties but will now just coach while Rolfs takes over the department. MORE

Hall takes over Barton volleyball program

Patrick Hall will be taking over the Barton Community College volleyball as the Cougars new head coach for the 2011 season. Hall was hired recently to replace Jaime Cabral. Hall comes to Barton from just down the road at another Jayhawk West school. Hall has been the head coach at Pratt for the past 5 seasons, where he earned 3 Jayhawk West Coach of the Year awards.
