Leading the Barton Community College volleyball team to the KJCCC West Division title and its second straight Region VI Championship, the accolades continue to roll in for Paula da Silva. The freshman from Uberlandia, Brazil, recently received honorable mention NJCAA Division I Volleyball All-American status and second team honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Da Silva’s recent honors add to her Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year awards for both the Jayhawk West All-Conference and All-Region VI teams. MORE
The Barton Community College volleyball team had their season come to an end Friday at the NJCAA Division I Volleyball National Tournament held at West Plains, Missouri. The No. 14 seeded Lady Cougars lost for the second consecutive day as No. 11 Temple College defeated Barton 25-23, 25-17, and 25-22. With the loss, the two-time Region VI Champions ends its season with a 29-14 record. MORE
The Barton Community College volleyball team dropped their first match today at the NJCAA Division I Volleyball National Tournament held at West Plains, Missouri. Barton, making its twenty-first appearance at the national tournament and seeded No. 14 this year, lost to No. 3 seeded Western Wyoming Community College 25-13, 25-21, and 25-19. Similar to last year’s first round matchup between the two teams, Western Wyoming knocks the 29-13 Lady Cougars to the consolation side of the double-elimination tournament with 9th place being the best it can achieve at this point. Barton’s next match will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday against Temple College with the winner advancing to the 4:30 p.m. match. Temple, the No. 11 tournament seed, lost to No. 6 Iowa Western 25-20, 25-22, and 25-17. Having won the KJCCC West Division and Region VI Championship, the accolades continue to roll in for the Barton Community College volleyball team as post-season awards were announced today. The Lady Cougars placed three players and its head coach on the Jayhawk West All-conference and All-Region VI team. Headlining the selections is freshman Paula da Silva who was chosen as both the Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year. Joining da Silva on the 1st Team is sophomore Juliana Melo de Barros while sophomore Taylor Arnold earned honorable mention recognition. Head Coach Patrick Hall, in his first season at Barton, was chosen as the Coach of the Year. MORE
The Barton Community College volleyball team held off Seward County Community College on Sunday to capture the Region VI Division I Volleyball Championship held at Newman University in Wichita. After defeating Seward on Saturday in relative easy fashion, Barton was forced to a second championship match following the Lady Saints’ come-from-behind five-set win in the first championship match. In the winner-take-all second championship match, the Lady Cougars were pushed to four sets but captured their second straight Region VI title and earned their second straight trip to the NJCAA Division I Volleyball National Tournament. The Barton Community College volleyball team won both of their matches in impressive fashion Saturday in the Region VI playoffs held at Newman University in Wichita. Barton started the day with a three-set sweep of Hutchinson Community College and then followed with another sweep of Seward County Community College in the winner’s bracket finals. Barton, the top seed in the tournament, will play in the championship game on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. against the Hutchinson-Seward winner. MORE
The Barton Community College Volleyball Team cruised through their first round Region VI Playoff match on Tuesday evening at the Barton Gym, handing the visiting Garden City Community College Broncbusters a 25-11, 25-17, 25-17 defeat. MORE
Facing the possibility of a letdown due to wrapping up the Jayhawk West Division title on Monday, the Barton Community College volleyball team took care of business tonight at the Barton Gym by sweeping Seward County Community College 25-19, 25-17, and 25-20. The Lady Cougars, who earned the top seed in next week’s Region VI Championships, finish the regular season at 13-1 in conference play and 25-11 overall while Seward will take the third seed with a 9-5 conference record and 21-14 overall. The Barton Community College volleyball team bounced back from its first conference loss last week to sweep Cloud County Community College tonight at the Barton Gym 25-16, 25-14, and 25-22. With the victory the Lady Cougars clinched the outright Jayhawk West Division title with one match remaining on Wednesday against Seward County Community College while also securing the number one seed in next week’s Region VI Championships. Barton improves to 12-1 in conference play and 24-11 while Cloud drops to 1-12 in conference play and 5-27 overall. MORE
Already securing at least a tie for the Jayhawk West conference title, the Barton Community College volleyball team hoped they could clinch the title outright tonight in Colby against second place Colby Community College. However, Colby wasn’t about to let the Lady Cougars celebrate on their home floor as they defeated Barton in five sets 22-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-19, and 15-8. With the loss the Lady Cougars see their unbeaten conference season come to a halt and fall to 11-1 in conference play and 23-11 overall while Colby improves to 10-3 in conference and 25-12 overall. Barton still controls its own destiny for the outright title needing to win one of their remaining two regular season matches next week at the friendly confines of the Barton Gym. MORE
Barton Community College volleyball player Paula da Silva becomes the second Lady Cougar player to be named the KJCCC Volleyball Verizon Wireless Player of the Week twice this year. Da Silva, a freshman middle blocker from Uberlandia, Brazil, hit over .300 and recorded 100 kills, including 30 in one match, as the Lady Cougars played four ranked or previously ranked teams. Da Silva’s performance was even more amazing because of having to move from her normal middle position to the outside during last weekend’s games due to recent team injuries. MORE
In hopes of a return trip next month for the NJCAA Division I Championships, the No. 19 ranked Barton Community College volleyball team had a rough visit this time around to West Plains, Missouri, as the Lady Cougars went 1-3 this weekend. After capturing a four-set victory against Seward County Community College in their first match of the Missouri State University-West Plains Tournament, the team fought through injuries and players filling new positions to limp home losing their last three matches. Tearing through the Jayhawk Conference for virtually the entire season, the No. 19 ranked Barton Community College volleyball team struggled tonight but prevailed in a five set thriller over Hutchinson Community College. In running its undefeated conference record to 10-0, Barton lost as many sets tonight as it has done all conference season. The 21-7 Lady Cougars will get its final chance to impress the national pollsters as they travel to Missouri this weekend to face fellow ranked opponents in the MSU-West Plains Tournament. MORE
For the second consecutive week Barton Community College volleyball player Juliana Melo de Barros has been named the NJCAA and KJCCC Volleyball Verizon Wireless Player of the Week. De Barros, a sophomore setter from Sao Paulo, Brazil, was also selected as the National Player of the Week last week. De Barros continues to post remarkable numbers for the Cougars, directing the offense on the way to dishing out 158 assists, a 9.8 assist/set average. A first team member of last year’s Jayhawk West All-Conference team and Barton’s reigning Region VI Championship team, de Barros has been integral in leading the No. 19 ranked Lady Cougars to a 20-7 record on the season including an undefeated 9-0 in conference play. The Barton Community College Volleyball team started a little slow tonight in Dodge City but controlled the rest of the match to sweep Dodge City Community College 25-19, 25-12, and 25-13. With the sweep the Lady Cougars continued their dominance in the Jayhawk West winning 27 of 29 sets played thus far in the conference season. The Lady Cougars, limiting and resting key players, won the match in relative easy fashion 25-13, 25-18, and 25-9. The No. 15 ranked Barton volleyball team won a five set thriller tonight over Colby Community College at the Barton Gym. The Lady Cougars trailed in the match 0-2 before winning the last three sets to remain undefeated in conference play. MORE
Behind the play of its freshmen, the No. 15 ranked Barton Community College Volleyball team swept Pratt Community College in Jayhawk Conference action 25-15, 25-15, and 25-21. With the win the Lady Cougars improve to 10-4 overall and stay unbeaten in conference at 5-0. MORE
Barton Community College volleyball player Paula da Silva has been named the KJCCC Verizon Wireless Player of the week. Da Silva, a freshman middle blocker from Uberlandia, Brazil, recorded 16 kills with zero errors in 19 attempts including eight kills in her first eight attempts. She has also helped lead the No. 12 ranked Lady Cougars to an 8-0 start on the season and 24 straight set victories. MORE
Barton Community College Volleyball player Juliana de Barros led the Barton sweep of Hutchinson Monday night by recording a rare triple/double. De Barros had 25 assists, 15 digs, and 11 kills in the 25-17, 25-19, 25-17 Lady Cougar win. The victory pushed Barton to 4-0 conference record, 8-0 overall, and 24-0 in sets. MORE
A superb defensive effort by the Cougars, and a sixteen kill performance from Paula da Silva, extended the Barton Volleyball team’s 2011 record to 7-0 with a 25-18, 25-19, 25-18 win over Dodge City on Wednesday night. The Cougars have yet to drop a single set and are now 21-0. Barton, currently ranked #11 in the nation, remains in first place in the Jayhawk Conference. MORE
With a three set sweep of Cloud County on Friday night, the Barton Community College Volleyball team extended their 2011 winning streak to 6-0 and 18 straight sets. But it wasn’t easy, as the T-Birds pushed the Cougars to 27-25 in the second set. Barton won sets one and three 25-15 and 25-14 respectively. MORE

The Barton Community College Volleyball Team rolled through their season opening tournament this past week-end, winning all four matches in twelve straight sets while holding opponents under 20 points in ten of those sets. MORE
The Barton Community College volleyball team is ranked No. 16 according to the recently released NJCAA Division I preseason poll. Last season the Lady Cougars won the Region VI Championship and made their 20th appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament. Barton is joined in the poll by three other Jayhawk Conference teams. Seward County Community College is the only other ranked team coming in at No. 18 while Colby Community College and Hutchinson Community College are receiving votes. MORE
Patrick Hall takes over the Barton Community College volleyball program as the Cougars new head coach for the 2011 season. Hall comes to Barton from just down the road at another Jayhawk West school where he had been the head coach at Pratt for the past 5 seasons and earned 3 Jayhawk West Coach of the Year awards. MORE
