The Barton Community College women’s basketball team once again had its season ended by the Independence Pirates in Region VI play, this time in quarterfinal action at Koch Arena in Wichita Friday afternoon. The Cougars could not survive a 3-point barrage from the Pirates, falling 84-67 to end the season with a 21-11 record. It was a season that saw the Cougars tie for 2nd in the Jayhawk West and return to the 20-win plateau. Independence lost its semifinal contest to Hutchinson and ended its season at 30-3. MORE
The Barton Community College women’s basketball team cruised to a 1st round win in Region VI playoff action Tuesday night at the Barton Gym, rolling by Labette 74-47. Barton, the No 3 seed from the West, had little trouble with the No 6 seed from the East advancing to the quarterfinals in Wichita Friday. The Cougars, 21-10, will get nationally ranked Independence in quarterfinal action at 3 pm at Koch Arena. Indy has been ranked all season, much of it in the Top 10, and will bring a 29-2 record to the contest. Labette ends its season at 10-21. MORE
The Barton Community College women’s basketball team closed out the regular season in style defeating Pratt 72-42 at the Barton Gym Saturday night in Great Bend. The win, coupled with a Cloud County loss to Jayhawk West champion Hutchinson, moved Barton into a 2nd place tie with the Cloud in the West standings. The Cougars closed out West play at 12-4, picking their 20th win of the season. Barton will head to post-season at 20-10. Pratt will enter the playoffs with a 13-17 overall record after going 3-13 in the West. Barton will take the No 3 seed from the West into Region VI action. The Cougars will host Labette, who finished 10-20 overall and 7-11 in the East. Free Admission for the 7 pm tip at the Barton Gym Tuesday to open the post-season. MORE
The Barton Community College women’s basketball team locked up a top 3 finish and is still in the running for 2nd place in the Jayhawk West with a 65-49 win over Colby Wednesday night at the Community Building in Colby. Barton improved to 11-4 in the West with just one game remaining in the regular season. Barton will host Pratt Saturday at the Barton Gym. Barton is currently one game behind Cloud (12-3) in the West but the Thunderbirds have a date at West Champion Hutch (14-1) Saturday to end their season. Colby ends its regular season at 5-11 in the West and 10-20 overall. The Trojans will more than likely be the No 7 seed in the West in the upcoming Region VI playoffs. MORE
The Barton Community College women’s basketball team took a big step toward a 2nd place finish in the Jayhawk West with a road win at Butler Saturday night. The Cougars left the Power Plant in El Dorado with a 67-61 West win improving to 10-3 in the conference and handing Butler its 4th West loss in the process. The Cougars are alone in 2nd but Cloud County also has 3 losses in the conference, standing at 8-3 with two more games remaining that the Cougars. Barton has 3 West games left in the regular season, starting with a home game against Hutchinson Wednesday at the Barton Gym in a 6 pm tip. MORE
The Barton Community College women’s basketball team kept the winning train rolling along with a 69-55 Jayhawk West win over Garden City Thursday night at the Barton Gym. The win was the 7th straight overall and 6th straight in Jayhawk West action. Barton is now 9-3 in the West and 17-9 overall while Garden City fell to 3-8 and 13-12. The Cougars will get a big showdown for 2nd place in the West Saturday when they travel to El Dorado to take on Butler. The winner of that game will be 2nd alone in the West. MORE
The Barton Community College women’s basketball team wasn’t able to run up 80 points like the previous 3 Jayhawk West contests but it was able to grind out a 59-53 win over Seward County Saturday night at the Barton Gym. The Cougars won their Homecoming contest making it 4 straight in the West and 7 of their last 8. The only loss in that time came at No. 14 Hutchinson. Barton is now 7-3 in the West and 15-9 overall. Seward fell to 5-5 in the West and it is also 15-9 overall. Barton is back on the road Monday to take on the last place team in the conference in Dodge City. MORE
The Barton Community College women’s basketball team continued to score points Wednesday night defeating Cloud County 80-71 at the Barton Gym for its 3rd straight win in Jayhawk West action. It was also the 3rd straight time the suddenly potent offense of the Cougars reached the 80-point mark in West play. The 80 points were a 24-point improvement from a 66-56 loss at Cloud to start the conference season. The win moved Barton into 3rd place in the West. Barton is now 6-3 in West and 14-9 overall. Cloud fell to 4th place at 5-3 and 14-6. Seward will visit the Barton Gym Saturday in another battle against a team vying for a home playoff game with its 5-4 West record and 15-8 overall mark. The Barton Community College women’s basketball team kept its high output offensive intact Saturday night at the Lesh Sports Arena in Pratt with an 87-70 win over the Beavers. That came off the heels of an 88-75 win over Colby which Barton scored 59 2nd half points, giving the Cougars back-to-back Jayhawk West games in the 80’s. The Cougars moved to 5-3 in the West after a 0-2 start to the season. Barton is 13-9 overall while Pratt dropped to 1-7 and 11-11. The upcoming week will provide Barton with an opportunity to get a big leg up in the race for a home court playoff spot and make or break possible contention for the West title as Cloud County and Seward County come to the Barton Gym. The Barton Community College women’s basketball team rolled up 59 points in the 2nd half Wednesday night on its way to an 88-75 Jayhawk West win over Colby at the Barton Gym. Barton sophomore Alisha Fanshier tossed in 27 points - 21 in that 2nd half on 7-of-7 3-point shooting in the final 20 minutes. With the win Barton is now 4-3 in the West and 12-9 overall. Colby fell to 3-4 in the West and now stands at 8-14 overall. The Cougars are back on the road Saturday with a trip to Pratt to tangle with the Beavers in a 6 pm tip at Lesh Sports Arena. MORE
The Barton Community College women’s basketball team had its 3-game conference winning streak snapped Thursday night in a game moved back one day due to the icy weather conditions Wednesday. Barton was beaten by Hutchinson 81-58 at the Sports Arena in Hutchinson. The loss drops the Cougars to 3-3 in the West and 10-9 overall while Hutchinson, ranked No 20 in the latest NJCAA poll, improves to 17-2 overall and 4-1 in the West. Barton is back home Friday to take on Barclay College in a non league contest at 6 pm. The Cougars will also be at home Wednesday to start West action back up against Colby in a 6 pm tip. MORE
The Barton Community College women’s basketball team made it 3 straight wins in the Jayhawk West with a 74-70 win over Butler Monday night at the Barton Gym in Great Bend. The loss was the first of the conference season for Butler, which entered the night tied for the lead in the Jayhawk West. For Barton, the Cougars have rebounded from a 0-2 start following a pair of road games with 3 straight wins. The Cougars are now 10-8 overall and 3-2 in the West while Butler falls to 3-1 in the West and 13-5 overall. The Cougars will travel to Hutchinson Wednesday for another West tilt against the Blue Dragons. Tip is set for 5:30 pm. MORE
The Barton Community College women’s basketball team picked up a road win Saturday in the Jayhawk West with a 72-70 win over Garden City at the Perryman Athletic Complex. Barton – suiting up only 8 players – had two foul out in the game and two more on the verge but survived for the win in a game that saw 49 fouls whistled between the two teams. Barton is now 2-2 in the West and has back-to-back wins after a 0-2 start. The Cougars are 9-8 overall while Garden fell to 0-3 in the West and 10-7 overall. Barton will be home Monday to take on Butler, who is tied for the West lead at 3-0 after knocking off No 17 Hutchinson Saturday in El Dorado. MORE
The Barton Community College women’s basketball team notched its 1st Jayhawk West win Wednesday night in the conference home opener at the Barton Gym. The Cougars rolled to a 92-49 win over Dodge City in a contest that featured some dazzling runs by Barton. Barton is now 1-2 in the Jayhawk West and 8-8 overall this season while Dodge falls to 0-3 and 7-10. The Cougars will look to make it 2 straight and pick up their 1st road win in West play Saturday when they travel to Garden City for a 5:30 pm tip. Garden will bring a 0-2 conference record and 10-6 overall mark to the contest. MORE
The Barton Community College women’s basketball team fell behind 9-0 right out of the gates Wednesday night at the Arley Bryant Gym in Concordia and was never able to make that difference up as Cloud defeated the Cougars 66-56 in the opener for both teams in Jayhawk West play. Barton fell to 0-1 in the West with the setback and is now 7-7 overall on the year. Cloud, which began the year ranked, is now 10-3 and 1-0. Barton will travel to Liberal to take on Seward County Saturday. Seward lost its West opener to ranked Hutchinson on the road. The Saints are 10-5 overall. MORE
The Barton Community College women’s basketball team rolled to a pair of wins over the weekend at the Hutchinson Classic then beat the Southwestern JV at home Monday night to run its winning streak to a season-high 4 games and even its mark at 6-6 on the year. The Cougars were lackluster at times in a 75-59 win over the Friends JV Friday at the Sports Arena then played their best basketball of the season in a 95-77 win over Northwest Shoals (Ala) Saturday afternoon. Barton cruised to an 89-74 win over the Southwestern JV Monday night at the Barton Gym. The Cougars will wrap up the 1st semester with a return trip to the Southwestern JV Friday in a last-minute replacement to the schedule. MORE
The Barton Community College women’s basketball team split games at the Booster Club Classic over the weekend, beating Labette Saturday night after losing to unbeaten Grayson County (Texas) Friday at the Barton Gym. The Cougars are now 2-3 on the season and will look to pull even at 3-3 Tuesday when they travel to Jayhawk East traditional power Cowley County in Arkansas City. MORE
The Barton Community College women’s basketball team battled a pair of Jayhawk East powers during the Barton Classic over the weekend. The Cougars lost to Coffeyville and Independence in hard-fought battles each night. Barton’s furious rally came up short against Coffeyville Friday night in a 61-55 loss while the Cougars led much of the way Saturday before unbeaten Independence took the lead in the 2nd half and pulled away late for a 73-61 win. The Cougars are 1-2 on the season and will be back home this weekend at the Cougar Booster Club Classic against Grayson County (Texas) and Labette. MORE
The Barton Community College women’s basketball team opened its 2010-11 campaign with a 95-37 win over the Bethany JV Tuesday night at the Barton Gym. The Cougars limited to Swedes to less than 20 points each half while exploding for 60 points in the 2nd half. The Cougars will be off for 10 days before returning to the court for what should be a very entertaining Barton Classic. The event November 12 and 13 will feature Jayhawk West schools Barton and Cloud County against Jayhawk East powers Independence and Coffeyville. MORE
