Sailer headed to Emporia State; search for new women’s soccer coach underway

The search for a new Barton Community College women’s soccer coach has began to replace the school’s all-time winningest coach in that sport. Bryan Sailer has accepted the same job at Emporia State University. Sailer leaves Barton after the 4 most successful seasons in the Cougars brief 10-year program. He will take over June 1 at the NCAA Division II after his teams rewrote the record at Barton. MORE

Cougars win opening playoff contest; play 3rd ranked Hutch in semifinals

The Barton Community College women’s soccer team took care of business Monday afternoon at Cougar Fields in Great Bend to start the post season. The Cougars, the No 4 seed in the Region VI tournament, earned a 2-0 win over No 5 seed Neosho County in 1st round play. That will set up a semifinal matchup with 3rd ranked and unbeaten Hutchinson in Topeka Saturday. The teams will play at 4 pm in Hummer Park. Barton is now 14-6 overall this year while Hutch is 18-0. Neosho ends its season with an 11-6-1 mark. MORE

Cougars lose 1-0 battle to No. 6 Hutchinson

The Barton Community College women’s soccer team saw its hopes for a share of the Jayhawk Conference title slip away with a hard-fought 1-0 loss to No. 6 ranked Hutchinson Sunday afternoon at Memorial Stadium in Great Bend. The Cougars 1-0 setback ended a week that saw Barton beat Hesston 5-0 and Allen County 6-0. Barton is now 8-2 in the Jayhawk with a pair of games left including a battle with Butler in El Dorado Tuesday. Butler is also 8-2 in the conference and the winner will more than likely carry the No. 3 seed into the opening round of next week’s Region VI playoffs. Hutch is in position to win the Jayhawk with its 11-0 mark in the conference and 16-0 overall records. Barton is 12-5 overall. Butler is 11-4 overall. MORE

Cougars bounce back with 11-1 in over Dodge City

The Barton Community College women’s soccer team bounced back from its first Jayhawk Conference loss with an 11-1 conference win over Dodge City Thursday afternoon at Cougar Fields in Great Bend. The win kept Barton in the hunt for a share of the Jayhawk crown but the Cougars will need some help. Barton improved to 7-1 in the Jayhawk and 10-4 overall. Dodge City fell to 1-7-1 and 1-11-1. The Cougars will be in Hesston Tuesday for a 5 pm start. MORE

Barton suffers 1st loss in Jayhawk play at the hands of No. 4 Johnson

The Barton Community College women’s soccer team came up short in its bid to remain 1 of 2 unbeaten teams in the Jayhawk Conference when the Cougars lost a 1-0 battle to No. 4 Johnson County Saturday afternoon at Cougar Fields in Great Bend. The loss was the 1st in conference play for Barton, now 6-1 in the Jayhawk. Barton is 9-4 overall. Johnson improved to 7-0 in the region and 10-1 overall. Hutchinson (9-0) is also unbeaten in the region. Barton will be back on its home field Saturday when the Cougars host Dodge City at 2 pm. MORE

Cougars take care of business; battle of Jayhawk unbeatens next up

The Barton Community College women’s soccer team did what it needed to do Wednesday afternoon at Cougar Fields in Great Bend – take care of business. With a possible match up of Jayhawk unbeatens looming Saturday when No. 4 Johnson County visits, the Cougars had to make sure not to look past a very good Garden City team. They didn’t. Barton got things rolling late in the opening half and kept it going as the Cougars won 4-0 over the Broncbusters. Barton is now 6-0 in the Jayhawk and will host Johnson Saturday at 1 pm. The Cavaliers will bring a 5-0 mark in the conference into town and a 9-1 overall record with them. Johnson’s lone this season is to No. 1 ranked Tyler College (Texas). MORE

Barton blanks two more Jayhawk opponents in road wins

The Barton Community College women’s soccer team earned a pair of Jayhawk Conference road wins this past weekend capturing shutout wins at Neosho County and Independence. The Cougars got out of Chanute Saturday night with a tight 2-0 win over Neosho then rolled to an 11-0 win at Independence Sunday afternoon. The wins move Barton to 5-0 in the Jayhawk Conference and 8-3 overall. The Cougars have not been scored upon in Jayhawk action yet. Barton will go for conference win No. 6 Wednesday when Garden City comes to Cougars Fields for a 2 pm kickoff. MORE

Cougars record 3rd straight shutout of Jayhawk foe with 3-0 win over Cloud

The Barton Community College women’s soccer team has yet to allow a goal in Jayhawk Conference play, posting its 3rd straight shutout Wednesday afternoon with a 3-0 win over Cloud at Cougar Fields in Great Bend. Barton scored twice very early in the contest then added another 2nd half goal for the 3-0 margin. The Cougars have outscored their conference foes by a 19-0 count while going 3-0 in the Jayhawk. Barton is now 6-3 overall. Cloud is 5-3 in the Jayhawk and 7-3 overall. The Cougars will get a pair of road conference games this weekend playing at Neosho and Independence. MORE

Barton bounces back with 10-0 win over Pratt; hosts Cloud Wednesday

The Barton Community College women’s soccer team bounced back from a tough weekend in Wyoming with a 10-0 blanking of Jayhawk Conference foe Pratt Thursday in the initial meeting between the two schools. Pratt is in its 1st year of soccer. The Cougars improved to 2-0 with the win in a game played at Barclay College in Haviland. Barton is now 5-3 on the season and will look for a 3-0 start to Jayhawk play Wednesday when Cloud County visits Barton in a 2 pm kick off. MORE

Barton drops two in Wyoming; beats Cowley in Jayhawk opener

The Barton Community College women’s soccer team had a forgettable weekend in Wyoming this past weekend losing a pair of games without scoring a goal. Barton lost 1-0 to Western Wyoming Saturday then fell 2-0 to Laramie County Sunday in Cheyenne Wyom. Barton did record a 6-0 win over Cowley before heading to Wyoming for the weekend. Barton is now 4-3 on the season and will step back into Jayhawk play Thursday when the Cougars travel to Haviland to take on Pratt at 5 pm. MORE

Barton wins 1st two in Minnesota before suffering 1st loss of season

The Barton Community College women’s soccer team won the 1st two contests of the weekend at the Minnesota KickOff Classic then suffered its 1st loss of the season to end the event. Barton defeated Cincinnati State Tech to start play in Rosemont, Minn by a 2-0 score Friday. The Cougars made it two straight in the classic with a 3-0 win over Waubonsee (Ill). Barton suffered its 1st setback in a 3-1 loss to Navarro (Tex) to end the weekend. The Cougars are 3-1 on the season and will begin Jayhawk Conference play Thursday when they host Cowley. MORE

Women’s Soccer opens season with Maple Woods

The Barton Community College women’s soccer team did not crack the preseason poll in the NJCAA but some of its foes did. A pair of Jayhawk Conference teams earned Top 15 honors as Johnson County came in No. 2 in the poll after making the NJCAA title game a year ago. Hutchinson was also ranked, coming in at No. 13.
