Central Kansas All-Star game to be held March 25

The inaugural Central Kansas High School All-Star Basketball Classic will be hosted on the campus of Barton Community College in Great Bend, Kansas, next Sunday, March 25.  These high school all-star basketball games will feature some of the best high school talent from Central Kansas and beyond.  The girls’ game will tip off at 4:00 p.m. with the boys’ game to follow at 6:00 p.m.  Three point and slam dunk competitions will also be held in conjunction with the two games.  Make plans now to attend this action packed event!  Tickets go on sale on Sunday, March 25, at 3:00 p.m.  with $5 admission for adults and $3 for students Kindergarten through twelfth grade.  MORE

Cougar Softball opens conference play with sweep of Colby Community College

Barton players celebrates as Alex Dunlavy crosses the plate after her go ahead two-run homerunWith the start of conference and regional play, the Barton Community College softball team began their “second season” with a sweep of the Colby Community College Trojans today at Cougar Field. Barton jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first inning of game one then tacked on three more runs in the third to go on to win 8-3. In game two the Lady Cougars rallied from a 6-1 second inning deficit by scoring six runs in the fourth and fifth innings to win 8-7. With the doubleheader sweep Barton improves to 5-19 on the season and starts Jayhawk Conference play at 2-0, while Colby falls to 4-17 overall and 0-6 in conference play. Barton will have a break in its schedule until traveling to Liberal, Kansas, on March 24 to take on Seward County Community College in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Baseball cruises to 16-7 win in non-conference play

The Barton Community College team took a break from conference action and defeated the Bethany College Junior Varsity 16-7 Wednesday evening at Lawson-Biggs Field. The Cougars, who had defeated Bethany previously 21-11 on February 22, scored in bunches to capture the win. After trailing 1-0 after the first, Barton scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth behind triples by Clayton Garland and Ryan Tracy followed by a three-run homerun by Tanner Carpenter. After Bethany scored one in the fifth and five in the sixth, the Cougars struck back with five more runs in the home half of the sixth then later added four in the eight in cruising to the victory. Barton improves to 16-6 on the season and will next play Seward County Community College this weekend. The two teams will play doubleheaders on both Saturday and Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. each day.

 

Cougar Basketball knocks off No. 5 ranked Coffeyville to advance to Region VI semifinal

Storming back after an early ten point deficit, the Barton Community College men’s basketball team led by three at halftime then held on for a 68-64 victory over the No. 5 ranked Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens Sunday in the Region VI Quarterfinals. Behind a combined twenty-eight point first half scoring by Turon Parker and Dwayne Brunson and sixteen second half points by Algie Key, the Cougars led the entire last thirty moments of the ball game to earn the semifinal berth. With the win Barton improves to 26-6 and advances to Monday’s semifinal while Coffeyville’s season comes to an end at 28-4. The Cougars will play Cowley College, who improved to 23-9 with their quarterfinal 61-52 victory over No. 20 Hutchinson, at 5:00 p.m. at Hartman Arena in Park City.  MORE

After dropping the first two games of the four-game series, the No. 16 ranked Barton Community College baseball team redeemed itself by winning game three against Pratt Community College to set up Sunday’s finale. Pratt put on a hitting display on Friday in cruising to an 18-6 win then scored five runs in the top of the seventh of Saturday’s game one for a surprise 9-8 win. In game two of Saturday’s doubleheader the Cougars exploded for eleven runs in the fourth and shut out the red hot Beavers 15-0. Barton, 15-5 on the season and 3-4 in conference play, will tangle again with Pratt, 10-5 on the season and 5-2 in conference play, on Sunday in a nine-inning game starting at 1:00 p.m. at Lawson-Biggs Field.  MORE

Men's basketball rolls into quarterfinals with impressive opening round win

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team cruised into Region VI quarterfinal play with a 95-73 win over Neosho County Community College in first round action Wednesday night at the Barton Gym.  Barton closed out the first half on a 5-0 run to lead by twelve and the Cougars never allowed Neosho back in the game in second half action. The Cougars lead was in the twenties for much of the second half and as large as thirty-one points with seven minutes to play.  With the win Barton improves to 25-6 and advances to the quarterfinal round of the playoffs while Neosho’s season comes to an end at 17-14.  The Cougars will now play No. 5 ranked Coffeyville, the top seed out of the Jayhawk East, in quarterfinal action 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at Hartman Arena in Park City.  MORE

Three Cougar basketball players earn All-Conference awards

Algie Key Dwayne Brunson Dionne HarrisFreshman Algie Key headlines three Barton selections to the recently announced KJCCC West Division team.  Key, who was voted the freshman of the year and to the first team, is joined by sophomore Dwayne Brunson who landed on the second team.  Landing on the women's selections, sophomore Dionne Harris was the lone Lady Cougar voted to the team as she was selected on the honorable mention team.

Track and Field finishes second and third at NJCAA Indoor Championships

The Barton Community College men’s and women’s track and field teams finished second and third respectively in the 2012 NJCAA Indoor Championship this past weekend at in Charleston, Illinois.  The Barton men, who have won ten indoor championships and finished second three times in the past fifteen years, captured two first place finishes and scored in twelve total events.  The Lady Cougars, who have won seventeen national championships and ten second place finishes in its storied history, captured two gold medals and scored in eight events.   The Cougars will spend the next couple of weeks preparing for the outdoor portion of its schedule which starts March 28 at the prestigious Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.

Cougar baseball battles back for 9-8 extra inning win over Hutchinson

The No. 16 ranked Barton Community College baseball team fought from behind to win 9-8 in ten innings over Hutchinson Community College Friday in Hutchinson.   The Cougars scored seven unanswered and received solid relief pitching to capture game one of the Jayhawk Conference season opener for both teams.  With the win Barton improves to 13-1 on the season while Hutchinson drops to 4-4.  The two teams will be back on the diamond Saturday for a pair of seven innings games beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Hutchinson’s Bud Detter Field.  The four-game series will wrap up with a nine inning game at 1:00 p.m. Sunday.  MORE

Baseball enters national poll at #16

Coach Mike Warren congratulates Tanner Carpenter during Sunday action against Western Nebraska on February 26, 2012Fresh off a weekend five game sweep, the Barton Community College baseball team is ranked No. 16 in the first regular season NJCAA Division I national poll recently released.  Barton’s 12-1 start is also the best start since the 2006 season when the Cougars started 7-1.  Barton will get its stiffest test of the early season as they travel to Hutchinson for a four game series with Hutchinson Community College.  First pitch for Friday’s nine inning game will begin at 4:00 p.m. at Hutchinson’s Bud Detter Field.  The two teams will return to the diamond at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday for a seven inning doubleheader and then wrap up the series with a nine inning game at 1:00 p.m. Sunday.  MORE

Key adds national honor to week’s accolades

Algie Key in first half action against Pratt Community College on January 28, 2012 at the Barton Gym on the campus of Barton Community College.A few days after being named KJCCC Verizon Wireless Co-Player of the Week, Barton Community College men’s basketball player Algie Key has been named the NJCAA Division I Player of the Week as well.  The freshman from Decatur, Georgia, put up a career high 32 points in Barton’s lone game last week, a 84-69 win over Colby Community College Saturday night at the Barton Gym.  Additionally Key was instrumental in keeping the Cougars within one at halftime as he shot 8-for-12 from the field scoring 17 of Barton’s 35 first half points.  Key shares the KJCCC week’s honor with Johnson County Community College’s Justin Leathers.  Since Leathers plays for the Division II Cavaliers, Key is the Region VI’s Division I nominee for the second time this season for the national player of the week honors.  MORE

Two Cougars named KJCCC players of the week

Key, a freshman from Decatur, Georgia, put up a career high 32 points in Barton’s 84-69 win over Colby Community College Saturday night at the Barton Gym.  Castagnini, a sophomore from Verona, Italy, batted .526 for the week, had a .667 on base percentage, scored 11 runs, and drove in another 11 runs in helping to lead Barton to a perfect 6-0 week including a five-game series weekend sweep of Western Nebraska Community College.  More on Key or Castagnini

Cougar baseball sweep five-game series, off to 12-1 start on season

Devin Welch in eighth inning action Sunday February 26, 2012 versus Western NebraskaWith a five-game sweep this past weekend, the Barton Community College baseball team is off to a 12-1 start, its best start since the 2005-06 season when it started 7-1.  The Cougars, who started the season 3-1 after a trip to Texas, have won ten straight including this past weekend’s sweep of Western Nebraska Community College.  Barton won 5-4 and 7-2 on Friday, 14-9 and 11-4 on Saturday, then completed the series sweep with a nine inning 7-2 victory on Sunday.  The Cougars will have the week off before starting a four game series with Hutchinson Community College at Hutchinson on Friday.  First pitch for Friday’s nine inning game will begin at 4:00 p.m. at Hutchinson’s Bud Detter Field.  The two teams will return to the diamond at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday for a seven inning doubleheader and then wrap up the series with a nine inning game at 1:00 p.m. Sunday.

Cougar men's basketball explode for forty-nine second half points to defeat Colby and clinch region home playoff game

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team continued its dominance over Colby Community College as the Cougars scored forty-nine second half points enroute to Saturday night’s 84-69 win at the Barton Gym.    Barton, who clinched a home playoff game and is now twenty-five and one versus Colby at the Barton gym, erased a one-point halftime deficit to earn the victory and improve to 9-5 in the Jayhawk West and 23-5 overall.  Colby loses their fifth game in the last six outings to fall to 7-8 in conference and 19-9 overall.  Amongst a third place tie with Cloud County Community College, Barton will play at Pratt Community College on Wednesday before a hopeful showdown with Cloud next Saturday night at the Barton gym.  MORE

Lady Cougars combine defense with timely offense in defeating Colby

Much like their previous meeting in January, the Barton Community College women’s basketball team used big runs to break open a close game in defeating Colby Community College 68-51 Saturday night at the Barton Gym.   Barton put together a 15-0 first half run then combined it with a 15-2 second half run to get victory and even their conference mark at 7-7 and improve to 17-11 overall, while Colby drops to 4-10 in the West and 8-20 overall.  The Lady Cougars will take to the road for Wednesday’s conference game as they take on the Pratt Community College Lady Beavers.  Barton will look for revenge in the 6:00 p.m. rematch as Pratt won the first contest 53-46 at the Barton Gym.  MORE

Track and Field finishes second at Region VI Indoor Championships

Jharyl Bowry clearing the high jump enroute to a first place finish in the event at the Region VI Indoor ChampionshipsThe Barton Community College men’s and women’s track and field teams both finished second in the 2012 Region VI Indoor Championship this past weekend at Ahern Field House in Manhattan.   The Cougar men came up three points short of Johnson County Community College as the team champion was determined in the final event of the day, the 4X400 relay.  Barton trailed by one and needed the win but Johnson beat out the Cougars by .53 to capture the championship.  The Lady Cougars held an eight point lead on Coffeyville Community College headed to the 4X400 but due to injury Barton’s second seeded relay team was unable to compete.  Coffeyville finished second in the event which closed the gap to earn a tie with Barton for second place.   The Cougars will spend the next two weeks training and healing injuries in preparation for the 2012 NJCAA Indoor Championship March 2-3 in Lubbock, Texas.  MORE

Cougar Softball comes back from four-run deficit to pick up first win

The Barton Community College softball team picked up their first win of the 2012 season by defeating Pratt Community College 11-8 in game one of the doubleheader today in Pratt.  The two teams split the series as Pratt scored four in the bottom of the sixth to win game two 6-2.  The series was a stark difference from their season opening meeting last year when Pratt blasted the Lady Cougars by a two game scoring margin of 37-6.   Barton will head to Poteau, Oklahoma, on Friday to play in the Carl Albert State College Tournament over the week-end.  The 1-2 Cougars will play at home on Wednesday, February 22, against Dodge City Community College in a 2:00 pm. doubleheader at Cougar Fields.  MORE

The Tuesday, February 21, baseball game between Barton Community College and Bethany College Junior Varsity has been rescheduled to Wednesday, February 22.  The two teams will play one nine inning game beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Lawson-Biggs Field on the campus of Barton Community College.

No. 19 Cougars grind out win to move within one of first place

For the second time in the conference season and coming against the same opponent, the No. 19 ranked Barton Community College men’s basketball team won a game without scoring 80 points as they defeated Butler Community College Wednesday night 74-67 at the Barton Gym.    The Cougars, who defeated Butler 71-62 in January, were led by Dwayne Brunson’s twenty-six point eleven rebound performance as Barton’s bench outscored Butler 43-12.  With Seward County’s Wednesday night loss the Cougars move within a game of first place but are also a game out of fifth place as the Jayhawk West race tightens up.  Barton, 8-4 in conference play and 22-4 overall, holds a half game lead on Hutchinson as the two teams will face off at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.   With the loss Butler drops to 2-9 in conference and 8-17 overall.  MORE

Lady Cougars unleash 18-2 scoring run to capture Jayhawk West victory

As been the case on numerous occasions for this year’s Barton Community College women’s basketball team, the Lady Cougars unleashed another big scoring run to defeat Butler Community College 60-53 Wednesday night at the Barton Gym.  Trailing by five with nine minutes to play, Barton went on an 18-2 run in the next six minutes to get the win and solidify their hold on fifth place in the Jayhawk West standings.  Improving to 6-6 in conference and 16-10 overall, the Lady Cougars travel to Hutchinson Saturday for a 5:30 p.m. tilt against the No. 2 ranked Blue Dragons.  Butler, whose loss places them into a tie for seventh place with Pratt, drops to 3-8 in conference play and 14-11 overall.  MORE

The Barton Community College softball team opened the 2012 season today at Cougar Fields with a pair of losses to Cloud County Community College.  The Cougars pounded out ten hits in game one but stranded eleven base runners in losing 7-3.  In game two the Cougars committed five errors as Cloud scored at least two runs in each of the first four innings to close out the doubleheader 10-0 in five innings.  Barton will return to the field in less than forty-eight hours as they travel to Pratt Community College for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader.  MORE

No. 13 Cougars drop 85-82 double-overtime road conference game at Garden City

After having a chance to tie for the conference lead, the No. 13 ranked Barton Community College Cougars find themselves fighting for a home playoff game just a week later as they dropped a double overtime 85-82 thriller to Garden City Community College Saturday night in Garden City.  The Cougars, who led by nine with 4:03 to play in regulation, slip to 7-4 in conference play and 21-4 overall.  Barton remains in second place but find themselves one loss away from dropping from the top four as the West Division tightens up for the important home playoff game.  Garden City, who improves to 6-5 in conference and 18-5 overall, moves into a tie for fifth place but just a game out of a tie for second.  Barton will be at home Wednesday as they take on Butler Community College at 8:00 p.m.  MORE

Lady Cougars drop pivotal conference game 61-54 to Garden City

In a battle for a home playoff game, Garden City Community College took another step in securing fourth place by defeating fifth place Barton Community College 61-54 Saturday night in Garden City. With Barton having a chance to tie Garden City in the West standings, the Lady Cougars couldn’t overcome a twenty-seven percent second half shooting performance in dropping to 5-6 in conference play and 15-10 overall.  Garden City, which increased its lead over Barton to two games, shot a mere thirty-three percent in the second half but countered with a twelve point advantage on turnovers to improve to 7-4 in the West and 15-10 overall.  Barton will look to maintain its fifth place in the conference as they take on Butler Community College, 3-7 in conference and 14-10 overall, at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Barton Gym.  MORE

Barton survives last second tip-in to hold off Dodge City 83-81

The No. 13 ranked Barton Community College men’s basketball survived two point-bank shots in the waning seconds to hold off Dodge City Community College 83-81 Wednesday night at the Barton Gym.  Fortunately for the Cougars the Conquistadors were milliseconds from sending the game into overtime as Clarence Willard’s put-back basket was just after time expired.  With the win Barton keeps pace for the West title by improving to 7-3 and 22-3 overall and trailing Seward County by one game.   Meanwhile Dodge drops its sixth straight to fall to 3-7 in the conference and 15-9 overall.   Barton travels to Garden City Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. West game.  Garden City, 5-5 in conference and 17-7 overall, dropped a 71-64 decision at Hutchinson on Wednesday night .  MORE

Focused Lady Cougars pick up first conference home win

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team showed no signs of a let down from Saturday’s win over then ranked No. 6 Seward County as the Lady Cougars dominated Dodge City Community College 76-55 Wednesday night at the Barton Gym.   After being tied at eight, the Lady Cougars outscored Dodge 35-11 to close the first half in building a twenty-four point halftime lead and cruise to the victory.  With the win the Lady Cougars picked up their first home conference win of the season and improved to .500 in conference play at 5-5 and 15-9 overall.  Barton travels to Garden City on Saturday for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off in hopes closing the gap for fourth place and home playoff game positioning.  Barton trails the 6-4 and 14-10 Lady Busters in the conference standings as Garden City was an 84-58 loser Wednesday night against No. 2 Hutchinson. No. 9 Cougars come from behind, win sixth straight to move into first place tie in Jayhawk West

Trailing for thirty-seven minutes and facing a twelve point second half deficit, the Barton Community College men’s basketball team battled from behind to earn a hard fought 86-82 victory over Cloud County Community College Wednesday night in Concordia.  The No. 9 ranked Cougars were held at bay most of the night until freshman Algie Key knocked down a three-pointer to give Barton its first lead at 74-73 with 2:46 to play.  After exchanging buckets throughout the next minute, a three-point play by Dwayne Brunson with 1:17 to play gave Barton a 79-77 lead it wouldn’t relinquish.  With the victory coupled with Seward County’s home loss to Hutchinson, Barton moves into a three-way tie for first place with Seward and Colby. Barton improves to 20-2 on the season and 6-2 in conference play while Cloud drops to 4-4 in conference and 14-8 overall.  A battle for first place and between nationally ranked teams will take place this Saturday as Barton travels to Liberal to take on the No. 12 ranked Saints in a 8:00 p.m. Jayhawk West contest.  MORE

Road streak snapped, Lady Cougars fall 61-57 to Cloud

One streak ended and another continued as the Barton Community College women’s basketball team lost a hard fought 61-57 decision to Cloud County Community College Wednesday night in Concordia.  The Lady Cougars, who had won three straight Jayhawk West road games, saw their road warrior streak snapped and continued a five year drought on the Lady T-birds home court.  With the loss the 13-9 Lady Cougars remain tied for fifth in the conference standings at 3-5 while Cloud improves to 14-7 overall and tied for third at 5-3.   Barton travels to Liberal on Saturday to take on No. 6 ranked Seward County Community College at 6:00 p.m.  The Lady Saints, 18-3 on the season and 7-1 in conference play, suffered their first conference loss Wednesday night 80-53 to No. 2 ranked Hutchinson Community College. Cruising to Jayhawk West win, Cougars move into second place

It wasn’t the dominating performance the Barton Community College men’s basketball team had three days prior, but the No. 10 ranked Cougars had complete control in its 88-76 victory Saturday night over Pratt Community College at the Barton gym.  After tying the game at two apiece, Barton stretched a twelve point halftime advantage to fifteen points in the second half and cruised to the Jayhawk West win.   The Cougars, 19-2 on the season and in second place in the conference at 5-2, drop Pratt below .500 to 10-11 overall and 1-6 in conference.  Barton will travel to Concordia to take on Cloud County Community College Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m. The Thunderbirds, 14-7 overall and 4-3 in conference, are coming off a tough 64-56 loss at Hutchinson where they led by thirteen and held Hutch to four first half field goals. Pratt sends Barton women to fourth home conference loss

If basketball games were played based on history, there wouldn’t have been any purpose in playing Saturday night’s Jayhawk Conference women’s basketball game at the Barton Gym.  After all, Barton Community College women’s basketball hadn’t lost to Pratt Community College on their home court since 2005 and owned a 32-1 home record against the Lady Beavers.  However history dared to repeat itself as Pratt knocked off Barton 53-46 to send the Lady Cougars to its fourth conference loss at home this season.  Shooting a frigid 30% from the field and contributing to Barton’s second worst offensive output of the season, the Lady Cougars drop to 3-4 in conference play and 13-8 overall.  Barton will take to the road on Wednesday traveling to Concordia for a 6:00 p.m. matchup with Cloud County Community College.  The Lady T-birds came within three seconds of upsetting No. 2 ranked Hutchinson Community College Saturday night in the Sports Arena as Hutch’s Chelsea Small sank a three-pointer with 2.8 seconds remaining for the 69-67 win.  MORE

Barton Athletics to induct three to 2012 Sports Hall of Fame

The Barton Community College Athletic department will induct Patricia Bauman, Wayne Becker, and Dennis Sherman to its Sports Hall of Fame at a 4:00 p.m. induction ceremony to be held on Saturday January 28 in the Kirkman Activity Center located on the Barton Campus.  The ceremony is free and open to the public with a chili feed social sponsored by the Cougar Booster Club beginning at 5:00 p.m.  Cost for the chili feed is $6 and includes chili, cinnamon roll, and refreshments.  The Hall of Fame inductees will also be honored at halftime of the men’s basketball game versus Pratt Community College later that evening.

Bauman was a former multiple sport coach and educator at Barton, while Sherman, a former golf team member, was the first Barton Cougar to win a conference title.  Wayne Becker will be honored posthumously for his contributions to Cougar Athletics.  MORE

Cougars win big road conference game taking down second place Colby

Trailing by six in the opening two minutes, the No. 10 ranked Barton Community College men’s basketball team utilized a 14-0 run and never looked back in easily defeating Colby Community College 88-65 Wednesday night in Colby.  The Cougars, 18-2 on the season and 4-2 in conference play, never let the Trojans any closer than five and led by as many as thirty-three with twelve minutes remaining in the game to pick up the road Jayhawk West win.  Colby, who was previously alone in second place in front of Barton, falls to 17-4 on the season and 5-2 in conference play.  Barton will be back at the Barton Gym on Saturday as they welcome Pratt Community College to town for an 8:00pm tip-off.  MORE

Lady Cougars pick up road conference win at Colby

Facing an eight point deficit in the first six minutes, the Barton Community College women’s basketball team went on a 23-2 run in the next ten minutes then held on late to defeat Colby Community College 61-58 Wednesday night in Colby.  The Lady Cougars led by fourteen at the break and as much as seventeen with 18:15 to play before Colby inched their way back into the contest.  The Lady Trojans actually took the lead twice at the 3:44 and 2:25 marks left to play but timely free throws and defensive pressure helped the Lady Cougars get the Jayhawk West win.  With the victory Barton improves to 13-7 on the season and evens their conference mark at 3-3.  Barton will next play Pratt Community College Saturday at 6:00pm at the Barton Gym.  MORE

Cougars win battle of nationally ranked teams

In a Jayhawk West battle of nationally ranked teams, the No. 14 ranked Barton Community College men’s basketball team never trailed in the contest and went on to defeat No. 19 ranked Hutchinson Community College 93-71 Wednesday night at the Barton Gym.  After starting the conference season with two straight losses, the Cougars have won three straight to move up to a third place tie in the West standings at 3-2 and improving to 17-2 overall.  Losing its second straight conference game, Hutchinson drops to 1-3 in the West and 14-4 overall.  The Cougars will have a week off before they are back in action January 25 when they travel to Colby in another Jayhawk West battle. Digging itself a twelve point deficit in the first five minutes, the Barton Community College women’s basketball team was never able to catch No. 2 nationally ranked Hutchinson Community College Wednesday night at the Barton Gym and lost the Jayhawk West contest 75-51.  With the loss the Lady Cougars drop to 2-3 in conference play and 12-7 overall while Hutchinson remains undefeated at 4-0 and 16-0 for the season.   Barton will have a week off from the hardwood until January 25 as it travels to Colby to take on the Trojans, a team the Lady Cougars are currently tied with in the conference standings.  Barton will be back at the Barton Gym January 28 as the Pratt Community College Beavers come to town.  Stats

“Pink Out” night for breast cancer awareness

In conjunction with Wednesday night’s home basketball game, Barton Community College will dedicate the night to “Pink Out” for breast cancer awareness.   Offering support and increasing awareness, the Barton Student Life Office has organized the evening’s events with informational and fundraising opportunities with all proceeds donated to the Barton Relay for Life team.  Fans are encouraged to wear pink as a show of support with a limited number of “Pink Out” themed t-shirts available for free distribution.  The Barton basketball teams will be hosting Hutchinson Community College with the women’s game beginning at 6:00 p.m. and the men scheduled to tip-off at approximately 8:00 p.m.  MORE

Track and Field opens indoor season with three first place finishes and qualifies thirteen for nationals

The Barton Community College track and field team opened the 2012 indoor season at the Holiday Inn Invitational this past weekend at the University of Nebraska. The men met seven national qualifying standard performances for the national indoor meet and won two events over the weekend while the women qualified six and won one event.  On the men’s side Akeem Haynes and Aliaksandr Linnik captured first place while Kandace Thomas captured Barton’s lone first place for the women.   Barton will travel to Lubbock, Texas, this week-end to participate in the Texas Tech Invitational.  MORE

Lady Cougars pick up second straight road conference win; Spence reaches 300 milestone

Forcing twenty turnovers and twenty-five percent shooting, the Barton Community College women’s basketball team defeated Butler Community College 55-39 Saturday night in El Dorado.  The victory evens the Lady Cougars conference record at 2-2 and improving to 12-6 overall while Butler slips to 0-3 in conference play and 11-6 overall.  The team’s twelfth victory also marked the 300th junior college win for Barton first-year head coach Darin Spence.  Spence, who coached his first junior college game at Butler, also picked up his fourth win as a visiting coach to the Butler Gym.   Barton’s next home game will be at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday against No. 3 Hutchinson as it will be “Pink Out” night at the Barton Gym.  In support of breast cancer awareness and Barton’s Relay for Life team, a limited number of pink t-shirts will be distributed while supplies last.  Fans are encouraged to wear pink in support as informational and give-away booths will be available. Barton unveils new cougar mascots

Bart and Miss Kitty - Barton mascotsFor over thirty years, Bart and Miss Kitty have represented Barton Community College at various events throughout the community.   During halftime of Wednesday night’s men’s basketball game, Barton unveiled new mascot costumes to replace the aged and worn out costumes that stood the test of time.

Made possible through the generosity of Barton’s Office of Institutional Advancement and the Barton Community College Foundation Board of Directors, the new costumes bring a fresh look for Bart and Miss Kitty as they are active participants throughout the Barton campus and surrounding communities.

Cougars defeat Garden City to get first conference win of season

In what could be considered an early conference season ‘must win’, the Barton Community College men’s basketball team picked up a much needed home conference win Wednesday night at the Barton Gym.  The Cougars shot 50% for the game and had five players score in double figures as they defeated Garden City Community College 82-72 to improve to 1-2 in conference and 15-2 overall.  With the loss Garden City drops to 13-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play.  The No. 15 ranked Cougars will travel to El Dorado this Saturday to take on Butler Community College for a 7:30 p.m. conference game.  The Grizzlies, who also were seeking their first conference win last night, picked up a big road victory by defeating No. 12 Hutchinson 62-61.   More

Comeback falls short, Lady Cougars fall to Garden City

Erasing a fifteen point second half deficit to lead with five minutes to play, the Barton Community College women’s basketball team faltered down the stretch and lost a 62-51 decision to Garden City Wednesday night at the Barton Gym.  The Lady Cougars grabbed a two point lead with five minutes to play but gave up critical defensive rebounds on missed free throws to help send Garden City to the conference victory.  Barton drops to 11-6 on the season and 1-2 in conference play while Garden City improves to 10-7 overall and 2-1 in conference play.  Barton will travel to El Dorado this Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. conference game against Butler.  The Grizzlies are 0-2 in conference and 11-5 overall after dropping a 63-47 decision Wednesday night against No. 3 Hutchinson.  Stats
