Ellis signs MLS contract with Sporting Kansas City

Kevin Ellis became the 1st Barton Community College soccer player to make it all the way to Major League Soccer when he signed a contract with Sporting Kansas City Friday. Ellis inked the contract at a press conference Friday afternoon. Ellis did not need to be drafted as part of the MLS program for home grown players. Ellis is a native of Kansas City, Mo. Ellis was a 2-time 1st team All-American in his 2 years at Barton – the 1st outfield player to do so for Barton in its 10-year program. Ellis scored 23 goals as a freshman to go with 8 assists while playing forward and midfield. This past season he shifted to the backline where he still managed 11 goals and 4 assists. MORE

Barton Community College sophomore Kevin Ellis will sign a contract at 1:30 pm Friday with the Sporting Kansas City Major League Soccer team, becoming the 1st former Cougar to make it to an MLS roster. Watch the signing LIVE

Ellis named 1st team All American

Kevin Ellis capped his stellar men’s soccer career at Barton Community College with a 1st team All American honor from the NJCAA this week. Ellis, a sophomore from Kansas City, becomes Barton’s 1st outfield player to earn back-to-back All American honors. Ellis was a 2nd team All American as a freshman last season. This season he helped guide the Cougars to the best finish in school history, placing 3rd at the NJCAA National Tournament. During his 2-year career at Barton the Cougars had a combined mark of 41-8-1, were 2-time Region VI Champions and made back-to-back appearances the NJCAA National Tournament for the 1st time in school history. Cougars take 3rd in NJCAA National Tournament with win over Monroe

The Barton Community College men's soccer team wrapped up the highest finish in school history Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 win over Monroe College (NY) in the 3rd place game at the NJCAA National Tournament in Tyler, Texas. The Cougars scored twice in the opening half and added another goal in the 2nd half for the win. Barton lost in the semifinals to eventual national champion and host Tyler Junior College. Barton lost to Tyler 3-0 in the semifinals. Tyler rolled to a 5-1 win in the title game over Cincinnati State Tech. Barton ends its season at 21-4-1. MORE

Barton beats Darton 3-2 on Bah goal in overtime to open NJCAA Tournament

The Barton Community College men's soccer team won for the 1st time at the NJCAA National Soccer Tournament, getting a goal with 3 minutes left in overtime to defeat Darton College (Ga) by a 3-2 score. Ahmad Bah scored his 2nd goal of the game to give Barton the win in Tyler, Texas and a trip to the semifinals. Barton will take on No. 1 ranked and host Tyler Junior College Friday at 5:30 pm. The Cougars are playing in their 3rd NJCAA National Tournament in school history, going 0-2 the 1st two times. Barton and Tyler played earlier this year to a 0-0 tie in Tyler just prior to Labor Day. Cougars take 4th seed into NJCAA National Championships

The Barton Community College men's soccer team will be the No. 4 seed this week in the NJCAA National Championships getting underway Thursday in Tyler, Texas. In the opening round the Cougars will battle 5th seed Darton College of Georgia at 3 pm. Darton comes into the tournament with a 17-5 record. Barton is currently 19-3-1 and riding an 18-game winning streak following its thrilling 2-1 win over Western Texas in the Plains District Championship. MORE

Barton scores with 15 seconds left; headed to NJCAA National Championships

The Barton Community College men's soccer team sent Cougar Fields out with a bang. In the final game played at Barton’s home field for the past 9 seasons, the Cougars scored with 15 seconds to play to send Barton to the NJCAA National Championship tournament with a 2-1 win over Western Texas Saturday afternoon. Italo Arcelino put in a loose ball off a long free kick in the waning seconds sending the Barton bench and largest crowd ever at the pitch into a frenzy. It was the only time the entire contest that Barton had a lead. The Cougars will now take their 19-3-1 record and 18-game winning streak to Tyler, Texas and Barton’s 2nd straight NJCAA Championship tournament. It is the 3rd in school history. MORE

Cougars win 2nd straight Region VI title; host Western Texas for right to move on to NJCAA National Championships

The Barton Community College men's soccer team made it 2 straight Region VI titles Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 blanking of Garden City at Hummer Park in Topeka. The win moves the Cougars to the Plains District Championships where Barton will host Western Texas Saturday at 2 pm with the winner moving on the to the 8-team NJCAA National Championships in Tyler, Texas. Barton defeated Johnson County in semifinal play 5-1 and is now 18-3-1 on the season. The back-to-back region titles are the 1st in school history for the Cougars. MORE

Barton opens defense of Region VI title with 9-1 in over KCK; No. 8 in latest poll

The Barton Community College men's soccer team began defense of its Region VI title with an easy 9-1 win over Kansas City Kansas Wednesday afternoon at Cougar Fields in Great Bend. Barton jumped to a 4-0 lead at half and cruised to the win to move into semifinal play Saturday in Topeka. The Cougars will take on Johnson County at 11 am Saturday at Hummer Park. The other semifinal game involves Cloud County and Garden City and will follow the Cougars game. The final are set for Sunday at Noon. Also on Tuesday Barton moved up two more spots on to No. 8 in the latest NJCAA poll. MORE

Perfect week gives Barton Jayhawk Conference title; top seed in region playoffs

The Barton Community College men's soccer team swept through 3 opponents this past week to secure the Jayhawk Conference Championship and the top seed in the fast approaching Region VI playoffs. A 2-0 win Saturday over Kansas City Kansas at Cougars Fields locked up both those honors. Earlier in the week the No. 14 ranked Cougars won road games at Hesston, 4-0, and Allen County, 1-0. Barton is still perfect in the Jayhawk with a 10-0 record and is 14-3-1 overall. The Jayhawk Conference title for Barton is the school’s 7th crown over the past 9 seasons. The Cougars are 53-1-2 in its last 56 Jayhawk Conference games over 6 years. Barton has just one contest left in the regular season as the Cougars travel to Coffeyville to take on the Red Ravens Wednesday. MORE

Barton beats Dodge 1-0; closes in on Jayhawk Conference title

The Barton Community College men's soccer team took another step closer to regaining the Jayhawk Conference title it relinquished a year ago with a 1-0 win over Dodge City at Cougar Fields in Great Bend. The win kept Barton unbeaten in Jayhawk Conference play – 2 games clear of everyone else in the Jayhawk in the loss column. Barton has just 3 conference game left – 4 region contests. A win Thursday at Allen County would secure Barton at least a share of the Jayhawk title. The Cougars are 8-0 in the Jayhawk and 11-3-1 overall this year. Barton has now won 10 straight. Dodge City falls to 5-3 in the region and 8-5 overall. Barton will return to action Tuesday at Hesston in a region contest at 7 pm. MORE

Cougars win in final minutes over Johnson; stay unbeaten in Jayhawk

The Barton Community College men's soccer team took it nearly to the end Saturday afternoon at Cougar Fields before pulling out a 2-1 victory over defending conference champion Johnson County in Jayhawk Conference play. The win came in dramatic fashion as the Cougars scored with 1:34 left in the game on its home field to keep Barton unbeaten in conference play at 7-0 and improved the Cougars to 10-3-1 overall. The Cougars are the lone unbeaten left in the conference. Johnson is now 6-6-1 overall and 4-3 in Region VI play. Barton can strengthen its firm grip on taking back the Jayhawk championship is has won 5 times over the past 10 years with a win at home Thursday against Dodge City. MORE

The Barton Community College men's soccer team continues to earn big win after big win in its quest to recapture the Jayhawk Conference championship. The latest in those steps was taken Wednesday afternoon at Cougar Fields in Great Bend as Barton knocked off rival Garden City 2-1. That kept Barton as the only unbeaten team in the Jayhawk with a 6-0 mark. Garden fell to 4-2 in the conference and 6-2-2 overall. The Cougars are now 9-3-1 overall and have won 8 straight games. Barton continues its stretch of big games as the Cougars host the team that ended Barton’s reign atop of the Jayhawk last season when Johnson County comes to Great Bend Saturday. MORE

The Barton Community College men's soccer team won a pair of Jayhawk Conference road games this past weekend to keep its mark in the conference perfect. Barton won 1-0 at Neosho County Saturday night then captured a 3-0 win over Independence Sunday afternoon. The wins move Barton to 5-0 in the region – the lone unbeaten team remaining. Barton is 8-3-1 overall on the year. The Cougars’ Jayhawk title chances will put to the test Wednesday when Garden City comes to Cougar Fields for a 4 pm kickoff in a crucial conference contest. Barton wins big Region VI tilt over Cloud

The Barton Community College men's soccer team brought its A game to the pitch Wednesday afternoon in a 4-1 win over Cloud County in a Jayhawk Conference showdown at Cougar Fields in Great Bend. The Cougars scored early in the contest then used one of its trademark flurries later in the half to take control in the battle amongst leaders in the conference and region. Barton remained 1 of just 3 unbeaten teams in the region at 3-0 while improving to 6-3-1 overall. Cloud fell to 6-2 in the region and 8-2 overall. Barton will battle another unbeaten Saturday night at Neosho County as the Cougars play their way through a very important stretch on the schedule. MORE

Cougars make it 4 straight with roads wins over Pratt and Laramie County

The Barton Community College men's soccer team has shrugged off its sluggish start to the season, winning a pair of road contests over an extended weekend to make it 4 straight victories. The Cougars moved to 2-0 in the Jayhawk Conference with a 4-2 win over Pratt Thursday in Haviland then stepped outside the conference for a 3-1 win at Laramie County (Wyom). Barton is now 5-3-1 on the season. The Cougars will be part of a big showdown in Jayhawk play Wednesday when region-leading Cloud County visits Cougar Fields at 4 pm. MORE

Barton starting to string wins together

The Barton Community College men's soccer team has shown the capacity over its previous 9 seasons to string together wins – bunches of them at times. This year’s club – the 10th edition of Cougar Soccer – is looking to do just that. The Cougars put together back-to-back for the 1st time on the young season Tuesday with a 5-1 win at Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa. That came on the heels of a 4-1 win over Cowley late last week. The Cougars are now 3-3-1 on the year with a contest against Pratt – a school in its initial season of soccer – Thursday in Haviland. All 3 loses came to teams either ranked or receiving votes – including No. 2 San Jacinto (Texas). The Cougars tie came against the No. 1 ranked team in the country Tyler (Texas). MORE

Cougars battle No. 1 Tyler to 0-0 tie; fall to No. 9 San Jacinto

The Barton Community College men's soccer team failed to come out of Texas with a win but showed it is capable of playing some pretty good soccer. The Cougars battled No. 1 Tyler to draw on Tyler’s home field then nearly pulled off a big rally the next day in a 3-2 loss to No. 9 San Jacinto at Tyler. The No. 10 ranked Cougars are now 1-3-1 on the season and will start Jayhawk Conference action Thursday at home against Cowley. MORE

Men's Soccer ranked No. 10 in NJCAA preseason poll

The Barton Community College men's soccer team earned a No. 10 preseason ranking this year in the NJCAA poll. The Cougars made it to the NJCAA National Championships last season, finishing 7th at the tournament. Barton is joined in the ranking by fellow Jayhawk team Garden City, ranked No. 12. Johnson County received votes but didn't place in the Top 15.
