Reigning two straight Region VI Champs have season ended abruptly - Finish with 12-8 record |
The Barton Community College men’s soccer team bid for a third straight Region VI title ended Saturday falling 4-0 to No. 10 ranked Cloud County Community at Topeka’s Hummer Park. The Cougars end the season at 12-8 while Cloud, who went on to win the Region VI title, will take an 18-1-3 record to the Plains District Tournament next weekend in Concordia. MORE
The Barton Community College men’s soccer team began their quest for its third straight Region VI title today at Cougar Field by defeating Johnson County Community College 7-1. The Cougars advance to the region semifinals at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday at Topeka’s Hummer Park against Cloud County Community College who recorded 3-0 shutout victory today over Pratt Community College. The Barton Community College men’s soccer team will begin its quest for its third straight Region VI title on Tuesday, October 25, against Johnson County Community College. The Cougars finished the regular season at 11-7 overall, 8-2 in conference, and 8-3 in region play and the fourth seed for the tournament while fifth seeded Johnson comes in at 8-7 overall, 6-4 in conference, and 7-4 in region play. Barton defeated Johnson earlier in the season 3-1 in Overland Park, KS. Game time will be at 4:00 p.m. at Cougar Field with a free cookout available for fans in attendance. Barton Community College men's soccer goalkeeper Nicholas Alexander has been named week eight’s KJCCC Verizon Wireless Goalkeeper of the Week. Alexander, a freshman from Wilmington, Delaware, is 15-3 on the season while recording his seventh shutout of the season last week against Northern Oklahoma College. Playing 270 minutes in goal this past week, Alexander turned away eight shots surrendering two goals with one coming via a penalty kick. MORE
The Barton Community College men's soccer team secured a Region VI first round home playoff game by defeating Kansas City Kansas Community College today in Kansas City 3-1. Finishing its regular season today with a 11-7 record, the Cougars will now play the waiting game to find out who they will play as the conference schedule still has a week remaining. Barton finishes the conference at 8-2 and 8-3 in region play, having forfeited four victories earlier in the season which included one conference and two region games. MORE
In a contrast of the prior day’s performance, the Barton Community College men's soccer team cranked up the offensive attack in a 7-1 conference victory over Allen Community College today at Cougar Field. The win improves the Barton’s record to 7-3 in conference play and 10-7 overall with only one game remaining. MORE

Suffering a rare conference loss earlier in the week, the Barton Community College men's soccer team returned to its winning custom on Saturday by defeating Independence Community College 6-2 at Cougar Field. Barton improves to 6-2 in the conference and 8-7 on the season with an outside chance of still tying for the conference title with some help from other teams. The Cougars will face a tough week ahead as they will play three games in five days beginning with a non-conference game Tuesday at home against Northern Oklahoma College – Tonkawa. MORE
In a battle for the top spot in the Jayhawk Conference standings, Cowley College shocked the No. 6 ranked Barton Community College men’s soccer team in a 2-1 victory in Arkansas City. Tied at 0-0 at halftime Cowley quickly scored just two and a half minutes into the second half. The Cougars responded with a Fabio Priore de Almeida goal just a minute later to tie the score. Cowley would get the game clincher with fourteen minutes to play and thus send the Cougars home with a rare conference defeat. MORE
The #6 ranked Barton Community College men's soccer team battled to a 3-1 victory today over Pratt Community College at Cougar Field. The Cougars move to 7-6 on the season and 5-1 in conference play and sets up a key Jayhawk Conference and Region VI game this Tuesday at Cowley College. MORE
Due to a recent NJCAA ruling, Barton Community College men’s soccer will forfeit four victories achieved in the early portion of this year’s 2011 schedule. The forfeitures are the result of a NJCAA interpretation of eligibility requirements for amateur student-athletes. MORE
The Barton Community College men’s soccer team has found being the nation’s top ranked team is not an easy road as they lost Sunday 3-2 to host Laramie County in Cheyenne, Wyoming. In its previous two games as the No. 1 team, Barton won by one goal in each contest. On Tuesday Barton had to rally from one-down to win 3-2 in the second extra time against No. 15 Cloud County then on Saturday the Cougars won a 1-0 decision over Northwest College. MORE

The move to the top spot from the No. 2 ranking comes on the heels of last night’s dramatic 3-2 second half of extra time victory over No. 15 Cloud County Community College. MORE

With the win the Cougars remain unbeaten in conference play and move to 8-1 on the season. Barton will travel to Cheyenne, Wyoming later this week in non-conference action. The Barton Community College men's soccer team earned a hard fought 4-1 victory today over Coffeyville Community College. After leading 1-0 at halftime and being tied with thirty-four minutes remaining, the Cougars scored three goals in the next thirty minutes to earn its fifth victory of the season against one loss. The No. 3 nationally ranked Cougars will have a week off to before hosting Neosho Community College on September 14. MORE
Barton Community College men's soccer player Lippi Souza has been named week two KJCCC Verizon Wireless Player of the Week. Souza, a sophomore from Shawnee, Kansas, scored a phenomenal thirty-yard kick last week against Hesston College and the game winning goal Sunday against No. 9 San Jacinto College. For the week Souza scored two goals on five shots on goal. MORE
Bouncing back from its first loss of the season, the Barton Community College men’s soccer team defeated No. 9 San Jacinto today 3-1. The No. 3 ranked Cougars scored two goals in the second half to improve to 4-1 on the season while also earning Head Coach Oliver Twelvetrees’ 100th victory at Barton. MORE

Braga, a sophomore from Sao Paulo, Brazil, scored the game winning goal Sunday against No. 7 Otero. He also helped anchor a tough defense to two shutout victories over the week-end which included only 5 shots on goal. MORE
The Barton Community College men's soccer team started the 2011 campaign impressively this past week-end officially christening their new turf field. The Cougars are off to a 2-0 start after dispatching Kansas Wesleyan JV 6-0 on Friday and No. 7 ranked Otero College on Sunday. The No. 3 ranked Cougars are back in action on Tuesday at home against Hesston College.

Selected by conference coaches, the defending conference and region champion Cougar soccer team is also ranked No. 3 in the nation in the NJCAA Division I preseason poll. The Barton women’s soccer team is predicted sixth in the conference after last year finishing fourth and making it to the region semifinals. MORE

The Cougars are coming off back-to-back appearances in the NJCAA Division I National Championships. Last season the Cougars finished 3rd which followed a 7th place finish in 2009 at the tournament. Ellis signs MLS contract with Sporting Kansas CityKevin Ellis became the 1st Barton Community College soccer player to make it all the way to Major League Soccer when he signed a contract with Sporting Kansas City Friday. Ellis inked the contract at a press conference Friday afternoon. Ellis did not need to be drafted as part of the MLS program for home grown players. Ellis is a native of Kansas City, Mo. Ellis was a 2-time 1st team All-American in his 2 years at Barton – the 1st outfield player to do so for Barton in its 10-year program. Ellis scored 23 goals as a freshman to go with 8 assists while playing forward and midfield. This past season he shifted to the backline where he still managed 11 goals and 4 assists. This season he helped guide the Cougars to the best finish in school history, placing 3rd at the NJCAA National Tournament. During his 2-year career at Barton the Cougars had a combined mark of 41-8-1, were 2-time Region VI Champions and made back-to-back appearances the NJCAA National Tournament for the 1st time in school history. The Cougars scored twice in the opening half and added another goal in the 2nd half for the win. Barton lost in the semifinals to eventual national champion and host Tyler Junior College. Barton lost to Tyler 3-0 in the semifinals. Tyler rolled to a 5-1 win in the title game over Cincinnati State Tech. Barton ends its season at 21-4-1. Ahmad Bah scored his 2nd goal of the game to give Barton the win in Tyler, Texas and a trip to the semifinals. Barton will take on No. 1 ranked and host Tyler Junior College Friday at 5:30 pm. The Cougars are playing in their 3rd NJCAA National Tournament in school history, going 0-2 the 1st two times. Barton and Tyler played earlier this year to a 0-0 tie in Tyler just prior to Labor Day. Barton is still perfect in the Jayhawk with a 10-0 record and is 14-3-1 overall. The Jayhawk Conference title for Barton is the school’s 7th crown over the past 9 seasons. The Cougars are 53-1-2 in its last 56 Jayhawk Conference games over 6 years.
