The Barton Community College men’s soccer team bid for a third straight Region VI title ended Saturday falling 4-0 to No. 10 ranked Cloud County Community at Topeka’s Hummer Park.  The Cougars end the season at 12-8 while Cloud, who went on to win the Region VI title, will take an 18-1-3 record to the Plains District Tournament next weekend in Concordia.  MORE

Cougars opens region play with 7-1 victory over Johnson

The Barton Community College men’s soccer team began their quest for its third straight Region VI title today at Cougar Field by defeating Johnson County Community College 7-1.  The Cougars advance to the region semifinals at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday at Topeka’s Hummer Park against Cloud County Community College who recorded 3-0 shutout victory today over Pratt Community College.  MORE

Cougar Soccer seeks third straight region title, open region play against Johnson

The Barton Community College men’s soccer team will begin its quest for its third straight Region VI title on Tuesday, October 25, against Johnson County Community College.  The Cougars finished the regular season at 11-7 overall, 8-2 in conference, and 8-3 in region play and the fourth seed for the tournament while fifth seeded Johnson comes in at 8-7 overall, 6-4 in conference, and 7-4 in region play.   Barton defeated Johnson earlier in the season 3-1 in Overland Park, KS. Game time will be at 4:00 p.m. at Cougar Field with a free cookout available for fans in attendance.  The game will also be broadcast via the internet and can be found at www.ihigh.com/bartonsports.

Alexander becomes third Barton Soccer player to receive conference weekly award

Nicholas AlexanderBarton Community College men's soccer goalkeeper Nicholas Alexander has been named week eight’s KJCCC Verizon Wireless Goalkeeper of the Week.  Alexander, a freshman from Wilmington, Delaware, is 15-3 on the season while recording his seventh shutout of the season last week against Northern Oklahoma College.  Playing 270 minutes in goal this past week, Alexander turned away eight shots surrendering two goals with one coming via a penalty kick.   MORE

Cougar Soccer clinch first round home playoff game; defeat KCK 3-1

The Barton Community College men's soccer team secured a Region VI first round home playoff game by defeating Kansas City Kansas Community College today in Kansas City 3-1.  Finishing its regular season today with a 11-7 record, the Cougars will now play the waiting game to find out who they will play as the conference schedule still has a week remaining.  Barton finishes the conference at 8-2 and 8-3 in region play, having forfeited four victories earlier in the season which included one conference and two region games.  MORE

Men's soccer turns the tide in 7-1 win over Allen Community College

In a contrast of the prior day’s performance, the Barton Community College men's soccer team cranked up the offensive attack in a 7-1 conference victory over Allen Community College today at Cougar Field.  The win improves the Barton’s record to 7-3 in conference play and 10-7 overall with only one game remaining.  MORE

Cougars get defensive in 1-0 victory over Northern Oklahoma

On a day where the offense attack wasn’t hitting its mark, the Barton Community College men's soccer team defense stepped up to preserve a 1-0 victory over Northern Oklahoma College –Tonkawa today at Cougar Field.  The non-conference win improved the Cougars overall record to 9-7 on the season with two conference games remaining starting with Wednesday’s home finale against Allen County Community College.  MORE

Shaad would have two goals and an assist on the day.Suffering a rare conference loss earlier in the week, the Barton Community College men's soccer team returned to its winning custom on Saturday by defeating Independence Community College 6-2 at Cougar Field.  Barton improves to 6-2 in the conference and 8-7 on the season with an outside chance of still tying for the conference title with some help from other teams.  The Cougars will face a tough week ahead as they will play three games in five days beginning with a non-conference game Tuesday at home against Northern Oklahoma College – Tonkawa.  MORE

Cowley shocks #6 Barton men’s soccer 2-1

In a battle for the top spot in the Jayhawk Conference standings, Cowley College shocked the No. 6 ranked Barton Community College men’s soccer team in a 2-1 victory in Arkansas City.  Tied at 0-0 at halftime Cowley quickly scored just two and a half minutes into the second half.  The Cougars responded with a Fabio Priore de Almeida goal just a minute later to tie the score.  Cowley would get the game clincher with fourteen minutes to play and thus send the Cougars home with a rare conference defeat.  MORE

The #6 ranked Barton Community College men's soccer team battled to a 3-1 victory today over Pratt Community College at Cougar Field.  The Cougars move to 7-6 on the season and 5-1 in conference play and sets up a key Jayhawk Conference and Region VI game this Tuesday at Cowley College.  MORE

Men’s Soccer to forfeit four games

Due to a recent NJCAA ruling, Barton Community College men’s soccer will forfeit four victories achieved in the early portion of this year’s 2011 schedule.  The forfeitures are the result of a NJCAA interpretation of eligibility requirements for amateur student-athletes.  MORE

#1 Men’s Soccer loses 3-2 to Laramie

The Barton Community College men’s soccer team has found being the nation’s top ranked team is not an easy road as they lost Sunday 3-2 to host Laramie County in Cheyenne, Wyoming.   In its previous two games as the No. 1 team, Barton won by one goal in each contest.  On Tuesday Barton had to rally from one-down to win 3-2 in the second extra time against No. 15 Cloud County then on Saturday the Cougars won a 1-0 decision over Northwest College.  MORE

For the first time in the school’s soccer history, the Barton Community College men's soccer team claims the No. 1 spot in the recently released NJCAA Division I Men’s Soccer poll.  The move to the top spot from the No. 2 ranking comes on the heels of last night’s dramatic 3-2 second half of extra time victory over No. 15 Cloud County Community College. #2 Cougars defeat #16 Cloud County in double overtime thriller

The Barton Community College men's soccer team came from behind today in Concordia and defeated No. 16 ranked Cloud County Community College 3-2 in the second half of extra time.  With the win the Cougars remain unbeaten in conference play and move to 8-1 on the season.  Barton will travel to Cheyenne, Wyoming later this week in non-conference action.  The Cougars will play Northwest College on Saturday at 1:30pm then face host Laramie County Community College at noon on Sunday.  MORE

Cougar Soccer earns 4-1 victory over Coffeyville

The Barton Community College men's soccer team earned a hard fought 4-1 victory today over Coffeyville Community College.  After leading 1-0 at halftime and being tied with thirty-four minutes remaining, the Cougars scored three goals in the next thirty minutes to earn its fifth victory of the season against one loss.  The No. 3 nationally ranked Cougars will have a week off to before hosting Neosho Community College on September 14. Souza becomes second Barton Soccer player named conference soccer player of the week

Barton Community College men's soccer player Lippi Souza has been named week two KJCCC Verizon Wireless Player of the Week.  Souza, a sophomore from Shawnee, Kansas, scored a phenomenal thirty-yard kick last week against Hesston College and the game winning goal Sunday against No. 9 San Jacinto College.  For the week Souza scored two goals on five shots on goal.  MORE

Bouncing back from its first loss of the season, the Barton Community College men’s soccer team defeated No. 9 San Jacinto today 3-1.  The No. 3 ranked Cougars scored two goals in the second half to improve to 4-1 on the season while also earning Head Coach Oliver Twelvetrees’ 100th victory at Barton. Vinicius BragaBraga named men’s soccer player of the week

Barton Community College men's soccer player Vinicius Braga has been named the KJCCC Verizon Wireless Player of the Week.  Braga, a sophomore from Sao Paulo, Brazil, scored the game winning goal Sunday against No. 7 Otero.  He also helped anchor a tough defense to two shutout victories over the week-end which included only 5 shots on goal.  MORE

Cougars start 2011 season with home opener victories

The Barton Community College men's soccer team started the 2011 campaign impressively this past week-end officially christening their new turf field.  The Cougars are off to a 2-0 start after dispatching Kansas Wesleyan JV 6-0 on Friday and No. 7 ranked Otero College on Sunday.  The No. 3 ranked Cougars are back in action on Tuesday at home against Hesston College.

Men's Soccer predicted first in KJCCC conference poll

The Barton Community College men's soccer team is predicted to finish first in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.  Selected by conference coaches, the defending conference and region champion Cougar soccer team is also ranked No. 3 in the nation in the NJCAA Division I preseason poll.   The Barton women’s soccer team is predicted sixth in the conference after last year finishing fourth and making it to the region semifinals.  MORE

Barton Men's Soccer ranked No. 3 in NJCAA preseason poll

The Barton Community College men's soccer team comes in at No. 3 in the recently released NJCAA preseason poll.  The Cougars are coming off back-to-back appearances in the NJCAA Division I National Championships.  Last season the Cougars finished 3rd which followed a 7th place finish in 2009 at the tournament. Barton is the lone Jayhawk conference team ranked in the early poll.  MORE





Ellis signs MLS contract with Sporting Kansas City

Kevin Ellis became the 1st Barton Community College soccer player to make it all the way to Major League Soccer when he signed a contract with Sporting Kansas City Friday. Ellis inked the contract at a press conference Friday afternoon. Ellis did not need to be drafted as part of the MLS program for home grown players. Ellis is a native of Kansas City, Mo. Ellis was a 2-time 1st team All-American in his 2 years at Barton – the 1st outfield player to do so for Barton in its 10-year program. Ellis scored 23 goals as a freshman to go with 8 assists while playing forward and midfield. This past season he shifted to the backline where he still managed 11 goals and 4 assists. MORE

Ellis named 1st team All American

Kevin Ellis capped his stellar men’s soccer career at Barton Community College with a 1st team All American honor from the NJCAA this week. Ellis, a sophomore from Kansas City, becomes Barton’s 1st outfield player to earn back-to-back All American honors. Ellis was a 2nd team All American as a freshman last season. This season he helped guide the Cougars to the best finish in school history, placing 3rd at the NJCAA National Tournament. During his 2-year career at Barton the Cougars had a combined mark of 41-8-1, were 2-time Region VI Champions and made back-to-back appearances the NJCAA National Tournament for the 1st time in school history. Cougars take 3rd in NJCAA National Tournament with win over Monroe

The Barton Community College men's soccer team wrapped up the highest finish in school history Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 win over Monroe College (NY) in the 3rd place game at the NJCAA National Tournament in Tyler, Texas. The Cougars scored twice in the opening half and added another goal in the 2nd half for the win. Barton lost in the semifinals to eventual national champion and host Tyler Junior College. Barton lost to Tyler 3-0 in the semifinals. Tyler rolled to a 5-1 win in the title game over Cincinnati State Tech. Barton ends its season at 21-4-1. MORE

Barton beats Darton 3-2 on Bah goal in overtime to open NJCAA Tournament

The Barton Community College men's soccer team won for the 1st time at the NJCAA National Soccer Tournament, getting a goal with 3 minutes left in overtime to defeat Darton College (Ga) by a 3-2 score. Ahmad Bah scored his 2nd goal of the game to give Barton the win in Tyler, Texas and a trip to the semifinals. Barton will take on No. 1 ranked and host Tyler Junior College Friday at 5:30 pm. The Cougars are playing in their 3rd NJCAA National Tournament in school history, going 0-2 the 1st two times. Barton and Tyler played earlier this year to a 0-0 tie in Tyler just prior to Labor Day. Cougars take 4th seed into NJCAA National Championships

The Barton Community College men's soccer team will be the No. 4 seed this week in the NJCAA National Championships getting underway Thursday in Tyler, Texas. In the opening round the Cougars will battle 5th seed Darton College of Georgia at 3 pm. Darton comes into the tournament with a 17-5 record. Barton is currently 19-3-1 and riding an 18-game winning streak following its thrilling 2-1 win over Western Texas in the Plains District Championship. MORE

Barton scores with 15 seconds left; headed to NJCAA National Championships

The Barton Community College men's soccer team sent Cougar Fields out with a bang. In the final game played at Barton’s home field for the past 9 seasons, the Cougars scored with 15 seconds to play to send Barton to the NJCAA National Championship tournament with a 2-1 win over Western Texas Saturday afternoon. Italo Arcelino put in a loose ball off a long free kick in the waning seconds sending the Barton bench and largest crowd ever at the pitch into a frenzy. It was the only time the entire contest that Barton had a lead. The Cougars will now take their 19-3-1 record and 18-game winning streak to Tyler, Texas and Barton’s 2nd straight NJCAA Championship tournament. It is the 3rd in school history. MORE

The Barton Community College men's soccer team made it 2 straight Region VI titles Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 blanking of Garden City at Hummer Park in Topeka. The win moves the Cougars to the Plains District Championships where Barton will host Western Texas Saturday at 2 pm with the winner moving on the to the 8-team NJCAA National Championships in Tyler, Texas. Barton defeated Johnson County in semifinal play 5-1 and is now 18-3-1 on the season. The back-to-back region titles are the 1st in school history for the Cougars. MORE

Barton opens defense of Region VI title with 9-1 in over KCK; No. 8 in latest poll

The Barton Community College men's soccer team began defense of its Region VI title with an easy 9-1 win over Kansas City Kansas Wednesday afternoon at Cougar Fields in Great Bend. Barton jumped to a 4-0 lead at half and cruised to the win to move into semifinal play Saturday in Topeka. The Cougars will take on Johnson County at 11 am Saturday at Hummer Park. The other semifinal game involves Cloud County and Garden City and will follow the Cougars game. The final are set for Sunday at Noon. Also on Tuesday Barton moved up two more spots on to No. 8 in the latest NJCAA poll. MORE

Perfect week gives Barton Jayhawk Conference title; top seed in region playoffs

The Barton Community College men's soccer team swept through 3 opponents this past week to secure the Jayhawk Conference Championship and the top seed in the fast approaching Region VI playoffs. A 2-0 win Saturday over Kansas City Kansas at Cougars Fields locked up both those honors. Earlier in the week the No. 14 ranked Cougars won road games at Hesston, 4-0, and Allen County, 1-0. Barton is still perfect in the Jayhawk with a 10-0 record and is 14-3-1 overall. The Jayhawk Conference title for Barton is the school’s 7th crown over the past 9 seasons. The Cougars are 53-1-2 in its last 56 Jayhawk Conference games over 6 years. Barton has just one contest left in the regular season as the Cougars travel to Coffeyville to take on the Red Ravens Wednesday. MORE
